The SATA drive will not work with a regular IDE controller. You'll have to have a SATA controller. If you do, then you should be able to use both drives for storage. However, it will depend on your motherboard as to whether the SATA drive can be used to boot the system. If you motherboard supports multiple controllers and lets you pick the SATA drive as the boot device it will work otherwise not.

To use sata you need a sata connector on your motherboard or you have to buy a pci card with a sata controller on it. If you have a sata connector on your motherboard than yes you can boot from it. If not I don't think so because the drivers for the pci card will be on the ide drive. To boot from the sata drive go into your bios and change the boot sequence to use sata first then ide.

If your motherboard supports SATA, then yes.

You will have to change your BIOS settings to do what you want.
