Why does "cut at tear" never work?

Question

In cafes they give you tomato sauce in little sachets but I can never get them open without getting messy
This is also true of sachets of conditioner in hotels.
I can never rip them open and end up using my teeth in frustartion - tastes yucky
What do you have problems opening?

The best way to get into those (and no, they never do open properly!) is to make sure the contents are as well squeezed down as possible, then, rather than ripping it open with your teeth, just bite a tiny nick in the corner that you can tear from. That way you don't get shampoo in your mouth. :P

I also have trouble with those silly punnets of strawberries or tomatoes - the ones you think you've almost opened, but then, just as you get to the last corner, make you realise that all the other corners have miraculously welded themselves shut again, and you eventually just wrench the silly beggar in half just to get it off, by which time you've squashed half the strawberries... Or maybe that's just me...

I agree with you and, even at home, use kitchen sissors. I've decided I'm going to carry some with me because: a. I'm certain I'll get a sachet open that I otherwisw would have trouble with. b. Almost nothing can leak out. I hate three things: Cat cans that never can be opened without pulling the ringed lid all the way back, Spam cans--what "Einstein" invented the way to open that?! May I be the first in line to choke the soul or be the first to offer up prayers for the first "after death" violence?(Ha!), and anything with a vacuum-sealed lid.

The same things you do, and, yes, I end up using my teeth. i hate to, but what else are we to do?

make sure it is dry as well as your hands and you shouldn't have any problems.
