Why do people not understand that the President wants to try one last time . He even said it in his speech a couple months ago . He said they have until this fall to show significant improvement . Sounds like a deadline to me . He didn't say 'until someday' or 'whenever' . He said 'by this fall' .
Even a new Yahoo News Story details how worried Iraqis are . They say they want the U.S. to leave , but not now, not until they can control their own country a little better . So after investing this many lives, time and money, what's wrong with one last ditch effort ?
And can any of you remember complaining that the U.S. does not keep it's promises ? And that was why we were losing world respect and trust ? I do .

Congrats to Daniel for being the first 'pull-out' person to give a real answer !! I even disagree with him, but he's a helluva lot better than several of the answerers prior to him !!

TS - Former Republican ? Are you now a Democrat ? If so, I dare you to stand-up in a room full of Democrats and say what you just said . Better bring some help to escape the ensuing attack .

Because we have given Bush enough chances and he has proven that his plans just do not work. The lives of our brave men and women in uniform are not worth the gamble of believing that "this time", Bush will get it right.

Our efforts should be spent training the troops, not continuing a flawed open ended policy that gives the Iraqi people no sense of urgency to fully take over their own defense.

Although I do not agree with the war and you and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, I do agree that we have to stay until Iraq can stand on it's own two feet.

We broke it and we have to stay until we fix it. We need to teach them to run their own country and if we leave before they are capable of doing so, we will be asking for bigger problems than we have now. We need to assist them in any way possible until they can do it alone.

I think to pull out at any point before this happens would be wrong.

I believe that we had a successful war and tried heroically to bring a meaningful peace to the country, but President Bush, his advisers and his hand picked generals who were initially in charge did not accurately access the situation and therefor were ill prepared to deal with the consequences. The likely scenarios were well known to persons who studied that area (his father even knew them), and these resources were available to President Bush. This early failure led to huge problems, a deteriorating situation in Iraq (not to mention elsewhere), continuing huge expenses and a loss of faith in anything Bush says. So, most do not want to consider his plans due to the continuing failures. The fact is that this war is bankrupting the US at the rate of a billion dollars every two weeks and our military has been cut so much over the last few decades that it is currently suffering greatly.

President George W. Bush had the insight, and courage to see that we can not negotiate, nor appease those bent on destroying our way of life, indeed all of Western Culture. We can only fight them, and we cannot win unless we loose this weak kneed, bleeding heart mentality. To defeat our enemy, we must become as ruthless as they, implacable as they, unwavering as they ! We must be willing to use what ever weapons we have to totally wipe them out, or cause them to be unable to wage War. When we fought the Germans, and Japanese, we pulled no punches. We Carpet Bombed every square inch of both Countries, and used Two Nukes on The Japanese,( Civilian Targets, I may add.), and no one demanded the President pull out, or condemned him for "Innocent Deaths" !

The Communists in America today who vilify The President remind me of Neville Chamberlain. They are willfully blind, and short sighted. I want out Tropes Home as badly as the next person, but this War isn't just Iraq, Iraq is but one Battle field. This War will be a long War, a World War, if we fight it, unfortunately for the future of America, and Western Culture, the Communists are going to surrender.

At this point it doesn't matter what the President says, The Democrats are on a self serving mission. The security of our country and the dire need for us to succeed in Iraq is not on their agenda, Which is to destroy Bush at any cost, including not giving our troops the resources they need to do the job of helping Iraq become a Democracy. They are willing to sacrifice human life for political gain. Earnest, you are right , Daniel did give a rational answer with no name calling, but I also do not agree with him. Thanks Daniel for being one up on most Liberals.

Though he is far from my favorite person, I can't fault him for giving it a last ditch effort. I would like to point out; The Iraqi's have woke up & realized that we will not be there forever.
Thanks to the Democratic Party's consistent screaming that we want our troops home. ;0

The Democrats want the Whitehouse in '08. They will do or say anything to make sure of that. I think that even to the detriment of this country. Their hatred for President Bush and all things conservative is only matched by their obsessive need for control.

Like everything else the sad *** has done he has screwed it up, so don't expect George Walker Bush to ever get anything right. The only thing right about the sad *** is that he is guaranteed to go to Hell for his sins and transgressions on this earth. If you think that George Walker Bush is a true Christian then that makes the Devil his God.

Promises? Promises to whom?! No one was counting on the US to invade Iraq.

"After investing this many lives... what's wrong with one last ditch effort"? Ever heard of "good money after bad"? In this case, it's lives as well as money. You tell me what victory IS in Iraq and maybe we can talk.

Though you're clearly a practiced troll, with a better vocabulary and syntax than most, you ooze all the naivete of an earnest 12-year-old. Hey, "Earnest" is your name, too!

He's not trying anything that hasn't been tried before. We've had troops surges and they don't work. And at a cost of both American lives and 100's of...ahem....BILLIONS...arn't you people supposed to be "conservatives"
