centchroman available in india as 'saheli' is non-hormonal, non-steroidal oral contraceptive which is taken once per week. In India, ormeloxifene has been available as birth control since the early 1990s, and it is currently marketed there under the trade name Saheli. Ormeloxifene has been tested and licensed as a form of birth control, as well as a treatment for dysfunctional uterine bleeding in India. This birth control form is highly effective and devoid of any side effects.

Why US dept of drug (FDA) has not approved it yet? Why is it still not available in US? I could not find any reserch done by US companies on centchroman ? Anyone has any idea?

The reason is because they are probably testing the safety of it for useage here in the U.S. still is most likely the reason since it is such a new drug to be considered for this country.

You can contact the FDA thru their website at: http://www.fda.gov to see if they can give you additional info that way.
