A good question raised in the NY Post today. Since Harry Reid is so great at judging the Iraqi war a failure, I wonder if he would go so far as to point out who exactly the victors are in this situation. Who can walk off the battlefield with the upper hand, their heads high, and knowing their future will be brighter?

Good question!

The fact of this war is that noone can really win. We can't win because the people we are fighting aren't a defined army. They cant admit defeat. the insurgents are really just Iraqi citizens who decide to pick up a rifle and shoot at an American. There is no Insurgent general, or insurgent president, or insurgent ambassador. It's not as if they can all give up together.

They can't win for the same reason; there is no THEY. declaring victory is just as impossible as admitting defeat for them or for us.

President Bush said when this war started, that it wouldn't be an ordinary war. There will be no victory day. There will be no time when we can just say "we win" and come home. It will be over when Iraq can become a stable nation. Which, unfourtunately, with us there, will probably not happen.

The real losers of the war in Iraq are the people of Iraq. Their government is in shambles, the infrastructure is for all practical purposes destroyed, the conflict has opened up Iraq for the ravishing of their enemy neighbors, all of which has created a civil war that will continue to tear the country apart for years to come. Sooner or later the US will leave, really no better or worse off, but the people of Iraq will pay the price for a long time.

One's losing something, does not automatically suggest that another has "won" anything. That entire situation in Iraq was bad, and has been bad for thousands of years. The only reason that we (the US) are there is because Iraq is rich in oil, and the current US administration is filled with OilMen. So, I guess if there is any "winner" at all, it would have to be the current US administration....NOT the US PEOPLE, but just the administration.

Well, the war was against Saddam's Regime, and they are gone. So in a manner of speaking we have beaten our opponent.

The fact is Iraq will never be peaceful until the people there take responsiblity for their own security. They won't so long as they think we are going to be there looking over their shoulder.

The War of Terror on Iraq is clearly a failure. Nobody is walking away with a clear victory.

Iran! Iraq was a counterweight to Iran and with Iraq in disarray Iran is free to takeover the entire Mideast. The USA is in no position to anything about it.

Simple, Osama won. He never liked Iraq or the US, so watching the two brutalize each other for him is a wet dream. He's in some hole laughing while we're trying to figure out how to deal with Iraq and Iraq is trying to figure out why we're there.
