Actually it's smarter for an adult to own a pet like this than a child. Responsible adults will take the time to research an animal before they get it, buy the things the animal needs, and properly care for the pet. This will give the animal and the adult a more enjoyable life.
A child on the otherhand will want a pet on a spontaneous whim because they think it's cool and a month later, they loose all interest because all a hamster does is eat and poop.
My advice is to go for it! Animals can bring so much happiness into your life, no matter how big or small they are.

No harm in that I own 6 male rats and 5 female rats and I'm 23 so I would say go ahead get a pet for yourself. I would recommend 2 male rats or female rats ( they need company) because they last longer than hamsters and are more loving and they also are great to carry them on you shoulders around the house. Rats are very different to hamsters they do not bite all the time like hamsters do and they are a lot more intelligent to and more loving and caring (mine give me kisses and groom my hair and nibble my nails. But its up to you.

Certainly not! I'm an adult and I own mice and have owned hamsters, and have adult friends who own hamsters!
I don't think hamsters are good childrens pets anyway. They usually end up being taken care of by adults anyway, especially after they've bitten the first time!

i think it should be law that no-body under the age of 16 should be allowed to have a hamster as a pet!! Hamsters hate kids..... thats why they always bite them! The are fragile little things and aint no toy. Hamsters make great pets for adults, especially if your a night person!!

Hi,you sound like a sensitive person,so i'm guessing if you do buy a Hamster (which i don't think is stupid at any age!) you will give it lots of loving and look after it properly which will be rewarding not just for the Hamster but for you as well...Please let us know if you do get one!..All the Best, coco

Not at all! That's the beauty of being an adult...we can do stuff like own a hamster without having to ask permission or answer to anyone : )
Just make sure you do your research so that you can give your new hammie a good home.

I don't think it would be stupid so long as the adult learns how to care for a hamster properly. Every pet has to be cared for correctly.

Not at all; I recently got two hamsters for my 25th birthday! I've always wanted a hamster, and after two years of asking my husband finally bought me two! He loves them just as much as I do, they are awesome pets! Also my older sisters (28 & 32 years old) are really jealous and want a hamster too!
