Are you offended by the flying of the St Georges flag?
Do you object to christmas celebrations or nativity plays?
How would you feel about a MOWO (music of white origin) annual event?

I am asking because as people of ethnic minority we are always blamed for the PC policies sweeping the country. I have no problem with any of these celebrations of englishness/christanity either do any of my black and asian friends.
Do you?

Sorry I didn't mean it to sound like I wasn't interested in the opinion of white people.
All answers welcome :0)

I'm mixed race and British. It's a load of bollocks. If anything the press is to blame for stirring up racial tensions like this. The Daily Mail is the worst, the racist bastards.

To say England is a christian country is crap. How many people go to church? Everyone's down B&Q on a Sunday.

Music of white origin awards, yeah Westlife and country and western.

I'm white and hope people don't get offended when I fly the St Georges flag, has I am doing it to show my support for my country.

I live in a minority area and have seen Happy Divarli (Not sure of the spelling, sorry) hanging from posts. I don't have a problem with them do their street parade. I never get offended when the parade goes past my flat.

And yet where told to take flags down and they have street parades.

If i was living in another country I wouldn't get offended by their flag, it's their Country and right to fly their flag.

1) No I am not offended. The flag has been stigmatised cos the flag was previously championed by NF and racists. But I now know that not all people waving the flag are racists.

2) I am a black catholic so NO i am definitely not offended by CHristmas (I love it actually) or nativity plays (I appeared in one or two myself as a child)

3) I feel that if white people really want a MOWO annual event they should have it. However, I think many white people do not understand that MOBO is merely a label to define the TYPE of music. Its not meant to exclude white people from participating - in fact many white people have won MOBO awards.

Many black people tend to like a certain type of music, namely R&B and hip hop, jazz funk etc. But mainstream entertainment does not cater to those tastes. Think of all the music shows on TV - they mostly show rock music, indie and pop. And awards shows tend to reward indie, rock musicians, not hip hop and R&B. Thats why we have MOBO awards. Its not meant to exclude, but merely to define.

I am not offended by English culture. I think as a minority we should respect the culture of the country we choose to reside. However, the things that the English should not be ashamed of are associated with racist political parties such as the BNP. It is a shame that the English celebrate St Patrick's day more than St George's day.

I am a Black British man and I have never been offended by any celebration of Englishness or Christianity, as long as the far right weren't involved.

It is frustrating and unfair that we, as black people, are held responsible for native English people not being able to celebrate their culture. I have no problem with it at all and like you have no friends who do.

All this PC nonsense is coming from white liberals, who think we are offended but don't bother to ask us. I know their intentions are good, but their policies are unnecessary and cause resentment within the native english population.

Good question from someone with a frightfully sexy avatar lol.

It's the PC brigade who make trouble where none exists. They're a bloody nuisance. I mean, seriously, calling Christmas Winterval?? Give me a break.

If anyone's to blame for mindless PC it's white jobsworths in stuffy town halls with nothing better to do. Does anyone complain when Dewali or Eid take place? No.

I think things like the MOBO awards came about because minority voices usually have to shout louder to make themselves heard. The irony about a MOWO awards show would be that it would prob feature much music of black origin, ie rock n roll, which owes itself to black R'n'B music...unless they were for English/celtic folk music I suppose, but there's not a lot of that in the charts.

Thats a great question but I can't really answer cos i'm not black or muslim. But I believe you are right that minorities do seem to get blamed for PC policies, when it appears to be crazy councilors who actually pass them!

On a side note....I don't understand the point of the MOBO awards.....does skin colour have an effect on music writing?

I am not offended and I never have been.

I fly the flag, i love christmas lights and my daughter regularly appears in nativity plays (when they are allowed) and I am black.

I think religion is a much bigger factor than race. Muslims seem to be insisting that christian celebrations are not upheld. That being said I realise how much negative media coverage effects how we feel about people from different groups and how inaccurate their reporting often is.

If people have such a problem with Christian values and the St. George flag then why don't they move somewhere else. A place that doesn't hold Christian values or fly the St. George flag. Ummm.. like back to their country. Ohhh wait that's right OUR Christian values and the western culture are the only place they can practice a life worth living.
Radical Muslims are living a thousand years in the past. Radical Muslims are teaching their children martyrdom and to kill, maim and destroy while the west is working on the possibilities of the future in space exploration and civilization's. We have already discovered a new planet with the very same type of atmosphere as Earth's. What have the radical Muslims discovered, new ways to use their children to blow up other innocent children. How's that for the religion of peace?
To Muslims there are two people the believers and the non-believers. According to the Muslim religion non-believers (infidels) are not worthy of living. think about that next time you are accommodating a Muslim from the religion of peace.
