Luteal Phase Defect? It's where the body doesn't produce enough progesterone to sustain a pregnancy. I have a feeling this is the reason for my miscarriages. I just found out I'm having my third mc. Right after my first MC I had taken progesterone to start my period. Well, I ended up pregnant again instead. So I ended up on progesterone very early on in that pregnancy and I ended up with a lovely little girl. I have since had 2 more miscarriages. I had my progesterone levels checked once for something else and my level was 12. 10-50 is normal but 12 is on the lower end.

So has anyone else dealt with this and has taking progesterone early in the pregnancy helped? I plan on talking to my dr about this when i get in to see her next.

Yep I did with my 3rd pregnancy..was on progesterone shots all the way up to my 12th week when the placenta finally took over. Its more common than most women realize and the biggest reason for miscarriages, problem is, its usually not realized to be the case until its too late.

For luteal phase inadequacy you might try diet changes and supplementation rather than just hormones (progesterone).

There is a good supplement for women that can help regulate cycles called Optivite. Vitamin B6 is also important and improve luteal function.

There is an excellent book called "Fertility, Cycles and Nutritoin" by Marilyn Shannon which covers this. There is a PMS nutritional program which specifically overcomes luteal phase inadequacy.

Best of luck, and my sympathies for your miscarriages and lost babies.

I would tend to think so.. I have only had it one time, but I know a lady who is soooo bad off that if she thinks she's preggo, she has to take shots! Good luck!
