American marriage today is about nothing more than the BIG WHITE DRESS and the free *Open Bar* at the end of the bogus ceremony. Why don't people just be FWB and put all that wasted wedding day cash into a "trust" fund, until divorce do they part?

Not all marriage end in divorce and yes I know the divorce rate is high, but I believe that's due to the lack of support couples receive. I believe that before you get married you should have to pass a course called family skills, to make sure both people have what it takes to do the for better or for worse thing. But as long as the US says it's ok to divorce then people will continue to do it.

I certainly hope not! Helping each other and supporting our marriages is the primary purpose of this category. I think that most of us here feel that it's very unfortunate that half of marriages are ending in divorce. Furthermore, I think most of us believe that it just doesn't have to be that way; and that we can make a difference.

I meant my vows and so did my husband. We put a lot of hard work into our marriage and have a good stable one because of it. 36 years and still going strong!!!! Not everyone ends up in divorce, just the ones that are too lazy to do the work....

That's actually kind of funny. Really aligns to the stats. BUT, there are happy marriages out there. I have one. Many friends have one. 15 years still going strong.

I didn't "waste" a lot of money on my wedding. And my marriage hasn't ended in divorce.

A bit cynical, aren't you? Some people do marry for love and bcause they want to be with someone they care about.
