If Bush and company are 'we', then, yes, we lept in without a long enough look. If 'we' are the American public and some national leaders, then 'we' learned that even the highest office in our land can mislead us either on purpose or accidentally depending upon whom one supports. The point is now mote, WE should now leap out. Our continued presence weakens our military, costs a billion dollars every two weeks and will not change what is going to happen in Iraq at this point in the game ( I hate that euphenism for a war, but then I hate war -- especially 'limited wars'.)
ANyone who has ever studied that area knew and knows that the people there are not ready for democracy, that the external instigation would follow any destabilization, that important petroleum sources would be impacted and react in ways not favorable to the US populace. If anything should have been done, Saddam and as many of his henchmen as possible should have been killed using as many tactical strikes as necessary. Then, perhaps the surviving military could have formed some kind of stable state no matter shich side of Islam they came down on. The simple truth is that Bush, as usual, chose the wrong advisors to help in this decision, i.e. C. Rice whose doctorate in Russian studies was useless in this situation and who had less than zero credibility among Arab nations simply because she is a woman and Cheney, who had direct business interest in a war occuring to benefit his friends in Haliburton, to name the two main ones. Then Bush alienated the one person who could have helped the most, Colin Powell, a person who had studied the area in depth and had credence with the countries in that region. Bush lept and we were all drawn over the brink.
Now what? It was good that a despot like Saddam was overthrown, it was highly idealistic to attempt to install a democratic form of government there, but we did not lay any groundwork, we did not commit enough forces and we did not demand support from other countries that are supposed allies. Britain and all her citizens should be commended for hanging with us for so long. If the world has a solution let them speak up. If Iraqia and the world want us out then let's go. State up front that we forsee a massive civil war instigated by outside interest, Syria and Iran. State that the US is going to step aside and allow that to take place in accordance with world opinion, if each ally does not step up and send significant forces under US command to stabilize the country. A million more troops, complete closing of the borders, the arrest of Sadr and certain others would go a long way toward establishing a peace there. Then in a few decades maybe the troops can leave.

The truth is that the only thing they did not anticipate was the level of murderous terrorism.

They anticipated all the other problems - the need to build a government from scratch, the infrastructure, the resistance to compromise in government, even the insurgency. But they never anticipated the level at which the Sunni insurgents, the Al Qaeda terrorists and other terrorists are murdering fellow Muslims, fellow Iraqis.

This is because such a thing has never occurred in the history of the world before on such a scope. Nobody could have predicted it. It's never been seen before.

So, the fact is that they were prepared for what they expected, but were not prepared for the unexpected Iraqi on Iraqi terrorism.

no, there was more than enought evidence at hand that Iraq could be seen as a potential threat against this country- with possiblities of sponser terrorism. Despite that those facts could not be completely proven- sevral Inteligence agencies from Germany, England, France and our own had basically the same intel that he was trying to plan something and that something military wise was needed. Our ways at looking at the senario at the time - after 9-11 was pre emptive striking so another 9-11 would never happen again. that is why we attacked Iraq. Inwhich even the Clinton administration had the pentagon formulate plans on how to invade Iraq because of its unstable poltical ways and actions.

as for weapons of mass destruction- if you want sources- please email me- I have about 2 pages of news media sources from all over the world detailing what the average American is afraid of hearing- that the war is justified and that we are winning.

Have you had your head in the sand for the past 30 years? That is at least how long Hussein and his regime have been a problem. Remember when Isreal blew up the Iraq nuclear reactor? Remember when Iraq attacked Iran? Remember when Iraq invaded Kuwait? Remember the treaty that Hussein failed to keep, after the first gulf war? Remember 12 years and a total of 14 years of Un resolutions that Iraq would not obey? Remember President Bush's bowing to pressure from Congress to make continued efforts with the UN? Remeber when Hussien gassed the Kurds? Did you pay attention to the years of reports that Hussein was killing his own people? Do you need any additional reasons?

maybe we did leap
IT IS TIME TO GET OUT OF politics- threats in hatred one country against another
and to give the Muslims Iraq LET THE TERRORISTS HAVE THE COUNTRY-LET THEM REBUILD THEIR TERROR CELLS AND WE GET TO SEE THEM DEAD ONE PLANE AT A TIME AS THEY CRASH INTO OUR BUILDINGS.

ON THE other hand maybe Isalm needs Jesus who says to love your enemies -not the Shiite or Sunny way after the destruction of the Golden Mosque 2006 where they blew up each others mosques and dragged the religious leaders out into the streets of each others sect and murdered them -even when they threaten to kill all the Christians in Iraq-from a friend in Jesus a Jew born again after i listened to John 3 repenting of sins-Jesus is now my savior to care for all mankind and to do it kindly

the bible says to pray for our leaders too-on the other hand

WE didn't liberate them we repubicaniate them. WE needed to have taken care of Bin Laden and Al Queda before we went into Iraq. That should have been top priority and remained so until he was captured. Then we could have gone into Iraq. Al Queda wouldn't be florishing in Iraq right now if it had been dealt with. Wow what a concept victory on the war on terrorism.

No! We had the finest military minds and foreign affairs people working on the hussein issue long before the war was declared. We simply were not able to foresee the damning interference of the insurgents, However, they are certainly there but I believe we must honor our promise to allow the Iraqii people to build their own government!
