For some reason, all my laundry shrinks. I was all my cottons in particular at 40 degrees C (that's the lowest temp I have on my washing machine). I just checked some washed t-shirts against some new ones and I've lost 1 inch in length from the shirt. I also tumble dry some of my clothes on medium heat.

Can you let me know what I can do to preserve my cottons? It's frustrating!

Dry the cotton items at a lower temp, or run them thru the dryer for a short while & then take out & hang them.

My dryer dries things pretty quickly - I can usually set the dryer to run for about 15 minutes or so, and items are mostly dry.

This saves energy - and the ozone - too.

If you want to keep your clothes from shrinking, DON'T put cotton in the dryer, no matter what the directions say. I have a fold out dryer I use for my cottons and most jeans. I also iron...I know most people don't iron. I hope this will save you money and you'll look better in your clothes.

My solution is, I just never put any of my things in the dryer at all. I wear mostly cotton knits and I use fabric softener in the rinse cycle, and then just hang them all up on plastic hangers. They don't shrink and they also don't fade as quickly.

Most clothing have washing directions in them but if not, wash cotton in cold water and dry them on your lowest setting.

I think it depends on the quality and where you buy them from. Cheaper shops tend shrink - but named clothes I find tend to keep their colour and don't shrink. Why not take them back to the shop and complain.
