This article in the British newspaper, the Guardian, makes that claim.

The information you provide is excellent. I would answer "yes", to your question.
Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers individual and other societal interests inferior to the needs of the state, and seeks to forge a type of national unity, usually based on ethnic, religious, cultural, or racial attributes. Various scholars attribute different characteristics to fascism, but the following elements are usually seen as its integral parts: nationalism, authoritarianism, militarism, corporatism, collectivism, totalitarianism, anti-communism, and opposition to economic and political liberalism.[

The US is not a democracy and never has been. It is a Republic.
If you did the research, you would find that Fascist is the term used by both sides in politics to say the other is wrong. There will be a change in 2008, even if the Democrats manage to shoot themselves in the foot... again.
Republican leaders are smart enough to know not to put up such a fundamentally radical president again. But no, it is not a fascist state.

I agree with Steve's answer,
By the standards listed, no. The closest we came to that was in the 1940s during ww2. If you read the history of the time we met every standard. Of course the Guardian doesn't read history back that far. They like several rags in America only go as far as the year 2000.
We are not fascist!!!, we are deomcratic as a goverment, and freedom loving. My father fought against the nazi's and fascist in WW2. He raised me to love democracy and america.
Only a country that isnt fascist could have the dissidence we have in america.
The fact that we can say these things, proves we are not!!!

The Guardian is a leftist rag and always has been. The only reason that America may look Fascist at all to them is that the US isn't nearly as socialist country as the Brits are. If anything we are turning towards being a more leftist country rather than Fascist. Making outrageous charges, character assassination, unsubstantiated accusations, propaganda and more are the tools of the PC Liberal Left.

The first Act of a fascist Government to quell free speech ( like all the Anti Fox Libs and the Demoncrat sponsored free speech bill-which delivers the Opposite)
Then to Buy Only product made at Home.. ( unlike Toyota and Chinese goods)
Read the Guardian if you wish it has long claimed tieds to the Workers party........

In short, no.
The longer answer is that I believe those who make such claims are either hysterical themselves and/or merely addicted to labels.
I'm surprised that apparently few people see the similarities between America these days and the time period between the mid-1930s to the mid-'50s.
(By the way: Propaganda is *not* a "leftist tool"; rather, all politicians can claim custody of this tool, though not sole custody.)

good grief, from what I have seen lately it seems like it may be headed toward a joint dynasty featuring Clinton's and Bush's, and socialistic dynasty at that. What the heck do the Brits know? if they were really smart they would still be running this country.

Actually the left is at least as guilty as the right on this. They claim to support individual rights but back any law that the insurance industry or MADD proposes. Thus we have seat belt laws, helmet laws, insanely strict drinking laws, smoking laws, etc.
