........IRIS DISEASE PROBLEMS .........
Bacterial soft rot enters plants through wounds caused by
the iris borer. Infected leaves have a water-soaked
appearance. Healthy leaves fall over when the rhizomes
rot. Rotting rhizomes have a foul odor. Cut off leaves
showing the water-soaked areas. Destroy rotted rhizomes
and control the iris borer. Plant rhizomes shallow and
disinfect tools with 70% denatured alcohol.

Are your plants in full sun or are they trying to reach for the sun by bending over??
It may have something to do with where they are planted and the soil content. I've never had a problem.
Unless, something is eating at the rizones (the root area)?
good luck

Iris need full sun, the rhizome (root) should be planted slightly above the soil so the rhizome ripens for next years growth.

Are you cutting them down before they are brown? They should look dead before mowing or cutting them down every year. Check out http://brecks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_67635 for great info on Irises.
