It was probably the start of the Labor Party National Convention. Or maybe it was to celebrate the opening of the New Acquisitions Exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Or, it could have been the birthday celebration of the Harbor Bridge.

I think it was in celebration of ANZAC day. I'm not sure (since I wasn't in Sydney or Australia or anywhere near), but that could be what they were for.
