hi i just bought a new sound card but i dont have any sound but my on board sound is on i dont no how to get it working how do i turn off the on board sound so i can get my new sound card working thanks help

Are the leads for your speakers still contected to your motherboard outlets? if so pull them out and put them into your new sound board outlets.

Did you get the driver CD with the card ? If not, write down the name of the manufacturer and your card model number ( printed on card somewhere) ..then.. go to the cards manufacturers website . Look for Downloads and then type in your card model and check for your audio drivers. Then download it.. Good Luck !

Follow these steps to disable onboard sound,
1. Go over to my computer and right click it and go to properties
2. Go to the hardware tab
3. Go to device manager
4. go down to sound, video and game controllers.
5. Find your onboard Sound hardware right click it and dsiable it.
6. now download your drivers for the sound card. Meaning if it came which it should came with a cd pop that in and install.

you should delete the last sound card driver and install your new sound card driver.to delete plz right click on my computer and click properties. then goto hardware tab and and click device manager.then search your last sound card driver and click uninstall driver.then put your driver cd into cd-rom and install new sound card driver.

Usually there is a setting in the BIOS of the computer that controls that. Unfortunately, it is different for every make and model. Check the documentation (or web site) for your make and model and it should have that information.
