When I was a kid - about 30 years ago - I rarely got a shock from static electricity by touching the car or anything else. In the last 10 or so years, every time I touch my car, other doors, or even shelves in the supermarket I get quite an electric shock. Does anyone know why this would suddenly start within the last 10 years? Could the EMFs from cell phones or computers have something to do with this?

Check your dress. Are you wearing too much of synthetic? Also see whether you have changed your shoes recently. Maybe the shoes are not allowing a proper earthing. Touch the walls frequently to remove any static charges. It may also be in the environment. Too much dry weather, the place where you work, maybe its having too much ions, place like a factory where there is much abrasion causing free ions. Monitor screens cause static electricity. But I do not know about Mobile phone, rahter never heard of it.

Not the cell phones, though they can play some part (minor).

The main reason is the fabric you wear and the sole of your shoes have gone to much change in material and finish in last 10 years which makes electrostatic charge accumulation easier.

It is caused by the substances used to make modern equipment and nylon fibres in carpets imitation leathers in car interiors etc all these things are causing this rise in static electricity.~~

It may also be due to the weather. It is easier to accumulate static charges when it is humid. So if you had moved from a tropic to a temperate country, it may also explain it.

It is possible that the humidity is low. It gets real bad at a humidity of 20% or less.
