Yes there are a few possiblilities. First if you use a Tivo or a hacked DirecTV Tivo you can download the shows from the units onto your Laptop in a Mpeg format which is watchable on your laptop. I
f this works for you check out this site for more info on what you need and how to do it. http://www.drvplaygroun.com

Secondly you can purchase a PCMCIA TV Tuner card for pretty cheap that will basically turn your laptop into a DVR so you can capture shows/movies from your TV or DVR and save it on your Laptop in a few formats: AVI, MPEG, Etc. Check out this link for what a PCMCIA TV Tuner Capture card is and how much it goes for aproximately. I am sending a link with a E Bay auction that has completed just for your knowledge not for selling anything. http://cgi.ebay.com/TV-Cardbus-PCMCIA-TV-Tuner-Video-Capture-Card-PVR-DVR_W0QQitemZ260111732267QQihZ016QQcategoryZ3761QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Hope these ideas help you.

If you already have a television tuner on your laptop that accepts outside input. Then i'm willing to bet that you've got the application that allows for you to record any variety of video from that external enter onto your tough force already to be had in your pc. In case your television tuner is new adequate to accept the digital indicators then you definately should simply be ready to do it by means of the television antenna or via the cable connection. If it is too old to receive digital, then you'll must get a converter or buy a brand new tv tuner that does work with the new broadcast alerts. As for watching it live, there are plenty of areas like "tvchannelsfree" that do this and they do have MTV and VH1. If you are going to be recording any of these, I suppose you'll need an abobe flash recorder like "Orbit Downloader" which is freeware so you don't must worry about paying although there shareware and others you can pay for. Despite the fact that to be sincere I rather decide upon going to "ovguide" comfortably on account that it commonly has all the tv shows and films inside easy to find by way of a search field or link on the internet site.

Yes, there are quite a few.

With a TiVo you can transfer your TV shows to a computer to watch later.

Or, you could get a USB based TV Tuner for your laptop and record directly to the laptop.

Finally, you could get a Sling Player to watch live TV on your computer when you are not home. It puts what is on your TV on your computer screen anywhere in the world over the internet.

Yes you can receive and record directly to your hard drive but it will take about 2GB per hour and tie up your machine while recording. Bottom line not very efficient use of your eqpt.
