People is the united arab emirates have a much higher standard of living than in my own western country...their goverment provides everything for them, pays for their marriage, education abroad, sends old people to germany for the best medical attention all for free, there are more expensive cars than you can ever imagine seeing in your whole life,it has among the lowest crime rates in the world, heaps of people from the west are shifting there because its seen as this land of opportunity.

Gustavo - A lot of the wealth of uae these days is coming from tourism, they know the oil will run out so they have had the foresight to build the country up to what it is today, it's amazing the transformation it has undergone in the last 20 years.

Perhaps because they still operate on a "tribal law" basis. Until very recently, they were lagging far behind in culture and technology. Then the West invented vehicles and machinery that burn oil products, which the middle east seems to have in abundance. The western societies poured cash into these tribal states, in exchange for fuel. The tribal states used the cash to build EPCOT, while still practicing slavery, and therefore you have a dichotomy. The rich west being milked for the money to turn a desert into a disneyland, and still the tribal lords depressing the poor. They have created a whole new level - beside the first world but not the same. They don't produce the technologies, all they do is buy and exploit them.

Because people only see what is in the news and these like to just show the negative news of these foreign countries..
I know all these countries you mentioned have districts and areas that are very exclusive. Five star hotels but we only see the bad parts of the world..That is news for you....PBS has travel shows that show the truth in various country's..but on a whole..most citizens are ignorant on foreign countries..

Because the Media Outlets portray it that way.
There is never, NEVER any mention about the reconstruction going on. Hospitals, schools, businesses, homes.. none of that.
They always get some National Guardsmen, who only wanted to play soldier on the weekend, and score a load of college cash, who just finished his 1st tour, and now finds out he has to go BACK, and is crying about it.
If you add up every soldier who has whined to News, over the last 4 years of this war, you'd have less than 100. I know some of you won't believe that, but it's the same people repeated over and over again.... Like Cindy Shehan or however you spell her name, she was here in NC last week, she had about 90 people with her.
But what clip did they show? The one when she was outside Bush's house in Crawford TX with THOUSANDS of people with her. Camped out, blocking the roads, getting arrested, blah, blah, blah.
There's no story if it's a handful of people that wouldn't fill up a coffee shop.
The news was invited to a new hospital opening at one point, and they refused to leave the hotel, but four days later, a market bomber killed 3 people, and they were shooting footage of dead bodies and blood stains for HOURS.
Showing bombed out buildings... while just off camera... there was a new Arby's restaurant open for business.
According to the Liberal News Media, only the terrorist have CARS!!! Carbombs, carbombs, carbombs.... but when they show CITIZENS... they are walking among burned out buildings and shopping in open-air markets on FOOT. Women walking in Burkas, with children in tow. Scraggly looking men carrying AK-47's... walking.
If THIS picture were TRUE... then you'd be able to end the insurgency in ONE DAY. Just shoot anyone with a car. Kind of like the Liberal View of Gun Control here in the US.

Yes you are right, and not only UAE it is almost the whole Gulf counties are in much improvment.
For example here in Syria we started the last month to manifacture the frist local car called Sham ..YAY!
I think the third would now are mainly the poor african counties.

Of course, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, etc, has as much wealthy as many countries considered to belong to the first world. But they shouldn't be considered first world countries because their wealthy has a fragile base: oil. They don't have a first world economy.
