That is really wonderful!

My husband sold all his cards & comics & extensive GI Joe collection. He used the money to pay for a custom designed engagement ring for me. (He had a TON of really good stuff)

My husband bought gas with his 2 dollar bill collection when we first got married and were struggling to be independent. The attendent looked the bills over and stuck them in his pocket. But we made it through.

I gave my son up for adoption. I knew at age 20 that I wouldn't be able to give him much of a life. I couldn't even take care of myself at that point in my life, let alone this innocent child. I chose the family I wanted for him and gave him up so he could have a better life with people who would love him as much as I did.

I will never give so much of myself ever again. I don't think I could.

I once sold my pair of skis to buy a dress to attend a fancy ball with my then, boyfriend. Not being aware of this, he gave me his ski jacket as a gift....it reminded of that wonderful story, "The Gift Of The Magi."

We both gave up our single status for each other. I am now a widow , God bless his soul.

yes and no.

i have given up things that were precious to me, but no material object is truly precious to me.

and though others have given up things they deemed precious for me, in comparison, the objects didn't seem that precious to them.

objects lose value in the face of love, as it should be.
