Quite simply, NO.

Governments/Politicians dictate what should be taught and they are not going to let people learn that they and their predecessors were not always squeaky clean, remember, as Bart Simpson says, "It wasn't me who done it, and you can't prove it!".

PROOF: Look to current and recent events in your own country, find the anomolies, where the truth came out, and see the lengths gone to to cover it up, now consider how easy to cause long past events to be repainted in more glowing colours where required.

If you mean the tpyical history books youget at school then probably not. I don't know how it is in your country but for all countries I know bad things are always left out. But then, as they say, the truth is out there, there are many other books where you can find about the bad things. It is a good rule never to trust just one book.

Looks like a conspiracy den. First guy starts out with a racist rant against whites and others go on about political coverups and politicians dictate what is written. This country is so full of information you can pick any version you want so we really have no consensus on anything. Its not a coverup if its been exposed in the press and through public hearings, its a coverup if you don't know anything about it. Don't be shocked if history does not measure to modern standards. There was slavery of blacks and also of whites in the colonial days. American Indians kept black slaves too which has been in the news lately but was something that political correctness tended to not want to talk about. Colonial America did not have cold beer, cars, in door toilets and many other things that we kept or discarded over the years as people progressed. Anyone who wishes to view history based on modern technology and views is not looking for history but something to be offended about. It took America less than 100 years to abolish slavery and actually fought a war that nearly destroyed the nation over that as a major issue though it is chic to forget the hundreds of thousands of people who committed their lives to that struggle. After that the black nations of Africa had to sell their slaves to other countries who did not abolish slavery. The Sudan abolished slavery less then ten years ago. History textbooks are written as surveys and seldom go into adequate detail about any era. Textbooks talk about JFK with reverence and the sadenss of his death in office, but never mention that he really never accomplished more than commit the nation's armed forces to Vietnam. If you can read a history textbook you can research the mountains of information on every subject and every period. Play fewer on line games, watch less on line porn and research actual events. Follow Agents Mulder and Scully when they say the truth is out there, you just have to able to read.

Plenty of books detailing the "bad" things about our history are out there. Plus I'd say anyone who has gone to school in the last 40 years has learned plenty of "bad" things, if anything the pendulum has swung in the other direction.

I think the one good thing that has come from the whole era of PC is that we have started to view history from the eyes of non-white males and we do now learn about many of the injustices of the past. Most kids today learn about our mistreatment of the Native Americans, Japanese internment camps, racism, unjust wars, and illegal government activities or corrupt officials. We're not totalyl balanced yet but we have come a long way from being told that Indians were savages and it was our duty as "civilized Chrisitans" to kill them or convernt them.

There were times when history was presented in a light that was good for the country but now with journalism the way it is I doubt that anyone could get away with it.

I don't think so because since United States always wins wars we're not supposed to know what good things the enemy did and what bad things we did. It would really lower the morale.
