Fear is a thief !!!
It is the biggest thief we will ever know.
How much blood has been spilled on American soil already while this great republic was being formed?
The war with the English, French, Indians, Spanish, Mexicans, Japanese, Italians, Germans, Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc.
Did we put our freedoms on hold while thousands of Soviet nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles were aimed at all of our major cities and towns?
Did the Cold War prevent us from living out our daily lives?
Maybe LBJ was a fear monger, but Eisenhower and JFK certainly weren't.
Wasn't the Cold War primarily fought and eventually won ideologically in front of the court of world opinion and in the marketplace?
We have decided that we don't want the kind of "mommy government" that over-protects us and keeps us from being all that we can be if we don't get out there and try to do most everything on our own.
What about "daddy government" ?
What's that scratching at the front door?!
It must be a wolf!
Daddy will protect us. He has his shotgun too!
Daddy looks through the peep hole in the front door to see the wolf as the scratching intensifies.
Then we begin to hear the unmistakable high-pitched whimpers and yelps that leave everyone perplexed, but still frightened.
Daddy uncocks his shotgun and leans it against the wall.
He unlatches the door and lets in a frightened little puppy that is trying to come in from the cold night.
Like bacteria and viruses, criminals and terrorists will always be with us.
Our immune systems never stops working. Even when we sleep, but we still go to picnics, movies, and camping trips.
Our police forces, military, and intelligence services are always on duty too. We should be cautious, but we can't let the fear of potential terrorism grip us to the point where we wage war wherever our suspicions take us.
Bullets cost money.
Keep your powder dry, but don't let fear be a thief.
To the degree that your enemy causes you to stop being who you are is the degree to which your enemy is victorious.
The "War On Global Terrorism" is just like the Cold War in that it must be fought 99.999% on the ideological plane.
The Cold War was won much sooner than our most optimistic estimates.
It was won so suprisingly quickly that we didn't even have a post victory plan worked out ahead of time.
A serious mistake on our part.
Even if it was going to cost us billions of dollars, we should have been ready to secure ALL of the nuclear materials in Russia and other parts of the former Soviet Union.
The fact that we weren't able to do this has created the real problem that needs no exaggeration.
I think the war against Islamic fundamentalism can be won just as effectively and even more quickly than we won the Cold War, provided we do things the SMART way.
I don't consider the current administration to be all that smart.
Sad!!!! Very sad!!!!

Pols using your argument aren't worried about terrorism so much as they are about positioning troops in the oil fields during the next decades of oil scarcity.
You don't seem to have the Big Picture either.
Imagine, prosecuting a war in Iraq, where there was NO connection to terrorism, because now terrorists have come to the field. They have come to the field because we've occupied their country. The war we thrust upon Iraq gives terrorists a way to recruit people, because it creates hatred against the USA.
A dirty bomb, for example, can be smuggled into the USA with the war going on just as well as during peace time. Or one could have been brought here already and be in storage for use at a later date. What will a war abroad do to stop a rear guard action? Nothing. A war that bleeds the county’s resources will however weaken our ability to respond to threats of all kinds in the future: economic, political, environmental as well as military.

Hey warmonger, here's one for you. Terrorism is here to stay and occupying Iraq isn't making it any better. Freaks and ostriches seem to fill your world, no wonder you're so scared.

Blame Bush and the GOP.
After all, they couldn't do anything for the victims of Katrina--were caught off guard by the Cat 5 storm--and languished for the better part of the week, the month, and for the next 21 months.
And still they have done very little for them--other than to stick them in cheap trailers and washing their hands of the whole affair.
And they'll still be unprepared for a terrorist attack--seeing how Bush has left our borders wide open and our nation unprepared.
Tax cuts for the rich, no-bid contractor contracts, and of course hundreds of billions of dollars for Iraq.
You have to understand the Republican way of thinking: DOMESTIC PRIORITIES ARE DEAD LAST; GETTING RICH AND WEALTHY COMES FIRST ABOVE ALL ELSE.

Tall, get your heads out of the clouds.....the one time we were attacked - 9/11. The terrorists had to come here, go to school here and use our planes to attack us with. This could easily be curtailed with stricter immigration laws, no one from a suspect country could come into the US.
I was not aware that the insurgents had an air force and a navy in which to 'follow us home' with. And as far as I know, camels cannot fly nor swim across the ocean.
You have been sold another lie by Bushco and friends.

Good question!! I just heard on the radio that some guy told congress that they if they want to take responsibility for bringing the Troops home before we're done, they also have to take responsibility for another 9/11-type attack in the future.

"do unto others as you would have done to you" comes to mind, as well as.... if that's your credo ....get in first
as far as finger-pointing, if your own backyard needs attention, you can hardly call your neighbour out!
As an ally - I figure I'm about third in line (distance permitting)
As an ally - what goes around, comes around!
