Walking upright is believed to be something early hominid type primates developed because they tended to live in or on the edge of the newly developing open plains of Africa. The ability to walk upright enabled them to have a much wider view of the area so be able to see food better and predators which was an evolutionary advantage. The disadvantage is the the mammalian skeleton was evolved by creatures who walked on all four limbs so to walk upright is an adaption from the ideal and therefore a compromise with the disadvantages that implies

yes - we evolved that way to give us a better view over the savannna when we came down out of the trees (im talking over millions of years obviously)
Of course it had some fairly major ramifications - the hips had to become much stronger to bear the full load, so therefore in the female the birth canal had to get smaller. This meant that babies had to be born with smaller heads (quite simply to fit out!) which is why human babies are helpless for so much longer than our animal cousins - we have more growing to do, as we have to be born smaller

Nah duh. If we weren't meant to walk upright, then we wouldn't be walking upright. Walking upright is just another of many proofs that we did not evolve from the same ancestors as animals.

Physiologically, no. That's way most of us suffer from back problems. Walking upright was probably something we did to distinguish ourselves from other animals.

obviously~
humans were not the first tho* australopithecus aferensis was the first* and it was crucial in order to hunt/gather/survive... no lawn mowers back then so grass was high and dangerous for hominids~ the way we walk and stand(bipedal) supports upright movement~
