I think my experience will trump most. My wife wore my mother's mother's wedding and engagement rings. Made around 1900 and the engagement ring was a 5 diamond hoop worth a lot in sentimental terms (we inherited virtually nothing else) and one day she unusually took them off and asked me to keep them as she was gardening and they were covered in mud. I duly washed them and put them safely in my desk drawer wrapped in kitchen paper. Around three weeks later (we live incredibly busy lives) she asked for them back and I went to the drawer to look for them in the box I put small things in (like keys) - and could not find them. After about four days a friend told me to rewind the tape in my head and go from when I last had them to now. Well I found them in my memory but I had been cleaning out the drawer and unthinkingly had thrown the paper towel into the big black bin liner I had on the floor. When I realised this I felt terrible - the local garbage tip said they process 50 000 bags a week and there ws no way I would be able to find them. I never told my sister as she would kill me and my sife was very kind about it. Accidents happen. Then I called the insurance company and thought they would tell me to not be stupid but as I had them insured on a special policy they paid out within two weeks and told me it happens a lot more often than I might think. It's just that most of us feel too embarrassed to admit it.

I doubt he intended to lose the ring. He probably just didn't realize it wouldn't stay on when he was in the water. Perhaps you should apologize and the two of you should discuss why it mattered so much and what you should do about it now. I understand the symbolism of the ring, but if he didn't lose it intentionally (and if he loves you I'm sure it wasn't intentional) then you need to address the issue before it festers into a relationship ending monster wound.

My husband has lost two. The first about two years after we got married - and that really bothered me because our rings were blessed at our wedding ceremony. I replaced it for him, and he lost it within a year. Not replacing it again, though it causes me MUCH angst that he is not wearing one. I understand neither were on purpose, he is a good man of good character, but it still niggles at me....

I did once, well thought I did. He was a little upset by it but told me that if it didn't turn up within a certain amount of time we'd look for a new one. He was very understanding for me, but I ended up finding it and we were completely excited about it! Stupid me put it in the medicine cabinet while dying my hair.

yes my wife misplaced hers and spent so much time worrying how i would react if she told me and when she finally did i was glad it was just the ring she lost and not the love she had for me. Bottom line is he will get over it.............it happens and nothing you can do about it, the main thing is to tell him asap.
