Don't think in terms of rightwing or left, moderate or liberal.
Was listening to PM Abbas and it occured to me that there are two schools of thought, one rational and the other emotional.
One can be reasoned with the other forget it.
One can be persueded by facts the other one no matter how many facts they will go on believing that they are right.
Is anyone with me on this?
give an example, and I am talking about political viewpoints.

It's just another axis. Economically left and right. Ethically left and right. Fact-based and faith-based.

But being fact-based is not a good thing per se. Take abortion, for example. How would a 100% fact-based policy look? And remember that Stalin and his minions wanted to establish a "scientific socialism"!

And then there's the question how how we agree on "facts" ...

But having strong convictions, based on and tempered by facts, *is* a good thing IMHO.

I agree. Example: when I was young and liberal, I thought with my emotions. Now that I am a grown conservative, I am rational about my decisions and consider the consequences of my actions, regardless of what my heart feels.

You can see thousands of examples of that on this site. Radical-Left, Radical-Right, doesn't matter, they're all narrow-minded or teenagers or both.
