I think they know they're sounding racist, I think they just don't care.
And that's the really sad part.
Nice question.

Well, I don't think people who post racist comments have any clue about how stupid and ignorant they sound. I suspect they probably are just stupid and ignorant. You can't do anything about the stupidity or ignorance of others. All you can do is realize not everyone is like that, and lead the sort of life that makes you and your family proud.
Try to remember that people who are racist are usually that way from fear. A long time ago, "fear of strangers" was a very good idea and increased your survival rate. A "stranger" being anyone who didn't look the same as you.
Some people can get beyond those old imperatives, and others can't. It's not an excuse, but merely a possible explanation on why some people just can't seem to accept others.
Don't let it make you hate all the people who look like the racists and bigots you meet. Not everyone is the same.

I wish there was an easy answer to this. I hear you.
Education, awareness, comunication...put in high gear regarding, 'race' (something far more trouble thann it's worth, I go for lineage heritage...it leaves the door open for all possibilities!), religion or lack there of, gender, size, shape, features, disabilities, agism...it goes on and on and on. If everyone were the same colour, size, shape, beliefs, features, clones....someone would freak out and start pionting the finger..."did you see clone 5, 4001? they are left handed and clone 16,890,738 keeps shaving his head!
I'm not saying it's hopeless. I'm saying it is an ugly human failing. One that we need to accept is always going to be there, therefore! we need to address it on an everyday basis in our school, institutions, our homes and so on. It is something that is cultivated! Taught! Role modeled! So we must do the same thing the other way round in a good way and accept that our work will never be done.
because these things come under the guize of every colour, shape, age, gender, nationality and so on. Oddly, LOL! racism doesn't descriminate when it comes to manifesting itself...bad joke.
I am the daughrter of UK immegrants to Canada. I have a cousin I am close to in England. He has shared a few things with me. I am sure you are right that there are some flatt out racist there as there are everywhere. THere is also a shift happening culturally and it is causing alot of people to ask themselves who they are and who they want to be. That ahppens when there are floods of immegrants. Some of the community gets scared of loosing 'themselves' so they can appear a bit ignorant! I am not excusing anyones behavior.
In Canada, we are continually evolving. Some people hang on to 'their idea' of the origins of Canada...from whatever stage...and others go with the flow and we all have our input. We look back...some of us anyway...at our colonialsit roots and cry. History is fraught with anguish of this kind and we are naive if we think it does not matter. What we can do is address it all as openly as possible and work everyday to be better than we are.
Sending you a big hug! ;-) Be strong, you're not alone.
Peace and equinimity!
Afterthought...on line...either ignor them and don't give them an audience or fire everything you've got at them and don't stop until they do. Just do it with factual impecable logic.

If you have been born and bred here you must remember what it was like say 20\30 years ago?
You must agree that the whole situation is changing, yes it is very slow.
Look 20 years into the future when your kids are grown, it just has to be better still.
There is nothing at all these rascists can do about it, let them rant and rave while they can, they are a very small minority and will shortly be extinict!!

As you were born and bred in England why do you refer to yourself as Asian? You are British. I was born in Preston and there are parts of Preston now which are entirely Asian communities. The reason some British people won't accept the Asians is because some Asians do not want to become British. They want to set up their own communities and live life as if they were in Asia and have little to do with the British way. When Asians learn to mix with the British people the British people will stop seeing a brown skin and say Hi mate. England isn't the only country with racist people. Ten and a half years ago I moved to live in Asia. Even here there are racist people. In the tourist destinations there is a dual pricing system. On the taxi buses the official fare is twice as much for a foreigner as it is for a National. Many of the tourist attractions charge 3 times as much and more for a foreigner. I solved this problem by 1) Learning to speak, read and write the language and 2) by moving a long way from the tourist destinations. You are lucky, you are in England and such things there are illegal. Mix with the British, integrate with them and you will find there are not that many dyed in the wool racists.
Thanks for the additional information. I understood you where brown and that your parents were Asian. Okay, I live in the Northeast of Thailand. If I ever had the fortune to become a Thai citizen with a Thai passport I would tell people that I am Thai even though my ethnic origin is England. You were born and bred in Britain, if you have a passport it will be a British, or perhaps now a European passport. As I said in my answer, a lot of Asians want to live in Britain but make that part into a small part of Asia. This is what the ethnic British object to. You want to live in Britain with its opportunities and way of life but you don't want to be British. I would have thought that this attitude would be filtering out of the system amongst people like yourself who were born and raised in Britain and went to school with ethnic British children.

With you all the way on this one, I'm mixed race my grandfather came her in 1924 from Hydrabad and worked his *** off, never asked anything of anyone, even married a white lady which was totally unheard of in those days.
People post these questions mostly because they know they are going to get a big responce, they know what buttons to push and it works everytime, I think they are ignorant and stupid and they dont realise the hurt they can cause. We all know of a few on here who's names I wont mention who do it on a regular basis, but their questions are so tongue in cheek we know that they really are just wind up merchants so we dont really take offence, but there are some who really are totally offensive and the sad thing is they seem to get away with it, I think Yahoo needs to be far more active in stamping out this racial stuff instead of posting violations for such minor stupid things.
Maybe instead of rising to the bait we should just ignore the question, if they dont get any answers they will soon get bored and just go away.. The multitude of answers they get each time just makes them do it over and over again.. so lets boycott them..

You're absolutely right. Nobody was complaining when the British Empire covered half of the globe and there were British expats everywhere else, we need to return the courtesy. I am a Brit living in Asia and I've never had a negative comment from an Asian about me being here, so I certainly wouldn't complain about an Asian being in the UK.

Every country practices discrimination to some degree. Race, ethnicity, religion, social and economic status, sexual orientation, and life styles are some of the things the majority of the people in a country discriminate against. Does anyone know a country that doesn't practice discrimination against their own people or outsiders?

People do it to wind others up. I notice on here, when people post racist questions and get a big response, they just do it even more. The sad thing is alot of it is not ignorance. They know exactly what to say to upset others. The best solution is to ignore it.

Hi,
I totally agree.
I am a white Brit of Brit ancestry, and am very much anti-racist.
Perhaps living and working in the Mid-East for many a year with Arabic & Asian collegues has taught me to be concious of everyones' cultures and religions.
You are, in my book, a Brit, regardless of origon, if you choose to be so.
I find any racist comment to be offensive, and would not entertain listening to them.
All the Best,
Bob.
