First off you need at the very least 4 people friends with Mud In there Blood to go exploring. With proper equipment. To do any extensive 3-6etc day cave trips you really need to know what your doing. You can die in caves.
People are exploring caves. Geology, Hydrology,Biology (my favorite). Survey, I know of ancient weather study, bones are found in caves, Artifacts are found there, cave paintings, studies of ground water pollutants, The list goes on and on.
To fully be explored Is like anything else Were getting there.
There are cave surveyors. I know first hand of a 6 - day trip they went on. The cave they are working in has around 18 miles of surveyed passage so far. They are hopping to double that but who knows it might not ever be fully mapped.

Spelunking can be quite dangerous. It is also quite easy to become disoriented (lost) in a cave system. Prolonged exposure to the cold temperatures in caves (usually about 55°F) can cause hypothermia. If a section of cave does not have air circulation, you can use up the oxygen, just as in a mine shaft when ventilation fails.

I know. I would love to explore one which has never been explored before. Maybe one of those caves leads to the lost city of atlantis or earlier human civilizations?
