Many on here (Y Q&A) have and recommend AVG, which has been free for years. It is good but the latest free version does have some annoying feature in the free editionon such as it starting a scan every time you restart windows and you don't appear to be able to turn off that feature in the free edition.

Another one that has been highly recommended is Avast:

You will also need software to remove malware or adware, such as Spybot Search & Destroy:

and Super Anti Spyware if you find something that Spybot doesn't appear to remove (there are a few):

Most are not, because they only do a free scan. In order to delete the virus' off your computer you will have to purchase the product. If you can't purchase a product, i suggest downloading AVG. http://www.grisoft.com

Not really.
If you wish to have a good, free, virus program, go to www.grisoft.com, and download the free version of AVG Virus Program.
It's great, and can be updated every day. and really works well. I have not had one single virus in my computer since using this; over 2 yrs now.

www.bitdefender.com is good, but can take hrs if not a whole day to scan your PC, Panda is excellent, but its a pay service.
