I thought living in a hostel might give me the chance to move to a different part of the country as cheaply as possible. It would do till I get a job,get a flat, etc. Is that the best way ,or should I get a job, save up,and then move.

If you get a place in a hostel you won't have far to go to collect specimens for your other project involving faeces-eating insects ! ! !

I thought hostels were for people with exceptional needs and the vulnerable.I am not sure you could just walk into a hostel for accommodation and may need to be referred by someone.I have looked after many young people who had to go through the referral process to gain hostel places. If you are being supported by an organisation because you are vulnerable then you could seek their advice. If this is not the case then you could consider lodgings and rent a room in someones house.Check out the ads under Rooms For Let in the local press for the areas you are considering.Once you are working the rent for a hostel can be expensive as costs for staff has to be covered.Another way to consider would be to do an exchange and if you have a house you stand a good chance.Do a search on the net for country wide exchanges and good luck.

Hostels are a cheap not free hotels with shared rooms. Sharing an apartment or renting a room of house is a lot more comfortable and cost no more if you are going to be somewhere for months or longer. In any case you will need enough money to get by for a couple months so you have time to find a job and wait for your first paycheck. You should find out prices where you will be so you will know how much you will need to save.

St. Mungos. Then on to a shared house. Then a flat of your own. That's the best route. And don't rush anything. And for god's sake, while in the hostel, keep your own counsel!
