I think black is okay nowadays. You definitely cannot wear white or red because that is "taking away from the bride." Wear black, be comfortable, look great, and have a blast!

Its never advisable to wear black at a wedding. However, nowadays noone follows traditional rules. So if, you wish to wear a black dress, then do so.
Perhaps you could, tone down the black with silver accessories such as the shoes being a silver and bag and necklace a sparkling silver.

I would, as long you accesorise so that it doesn't look like you're going to a funeral. Wear a really bright hat or shoes and bag/earrings etc to match. Or you can get some fab little shrugs or boleros to go round your shoulders which could add a bit of colour to your outfit. In case you decide against it - Monsoon have FAB dresses in for wedding guest at the moment. This one is particularly lovely.

You can wear what you like, I wore white to a wedding and nobody cared. Black isn't just for funeral's anymore. Now days when you go to a funeral most people only stretch to black skirt or trousers and colourful tops.
So black to a wedding is fine, as long as you like the dress its perfect, nobody will be paying attention to your outfit anyway, its all about the bride remember.
But if your paranoid about it just get a nice bright coloured shrug or cardi to put on your shoulders.

yeah i've worn a black dress to a wedding before but worn brighter assessorys with it. You can always wear a colourful hat or hairpiece.
To be honest i think its something older people are more likely to pick up on, these days i dont thing anyone is particularly bothered by these old wives tales. Go for it, I'm sure you're look great!

Sure you can but make sure you lift it with lighter accessories, red and white work well. Besides it works well if you're going to the ceremony and the evening do as a quick change of accessories and you've got two outfits. Try a light coloured wrap or shawl for the day time and ditch the wrap and add nice necklace and black shoes for the evening

I think it's perfectly acceptable to wear a black dress - as long as it doesn't look too gloomy, if you know what I mean. If it looks fantastic on you, go with it - I would suggest an accessory such as a cheery wrap for your shoulders (maybe in a soft pink, blue or green if it's spring) and possibly some fun, comfy shoes to match.

Shame to wear black with such a lovely weather but it's very classy. Coloured accessories though. Go ahead, good wedding!
