From an interested Australian. Will it be the first female, Segolene Royal from the Socialist party, to run France with what sounds like socially more generous policies or a swing to a more right wing conservative male?
With the little knowledge of it I possess, I hope Segolene Royal will win.

Well, with Bayrou's announcement that he's creating a new political party (I think it's the Democratic Party), it's gotten tougher for both. He personally didn't endorse anyone. Both Royal and Sarkozy were criticized by Bayrou. However, I think Sarkozy is going to win because he'll desperately need to garner as many of Le Pen's votes to secure the race (and thinking that many of the minor liberal parties would endorse Royal). However, I don't really mind who wins. Thanks!

Nicolas Sarkozy recieved the most votes in the first round election, but did not get an absolute majority, so the second election between him and Royal will be on the 6th. It's a close race but I think Sarkozy will pull through.

It depends on whether Bayrou supports Royal or Sarkozy. I'm not sure who will win. But Segolene Royal would be great compared to Sarkozy.

Segolene Royal is favored to win but there is a stiff competition from Sarkozy.
