do they mean from a certain point on there's no empty space, vacuum, space to expand and just nothing ? how it can be possible ? in any case this universe we are living in doesn't make sense because either we are living in a universe which has no limits or has limits. but what's the limit then ? a big wall ? where it is standing/hovering/whatever and you know... and if has no limits that this is even harder to understand, isn't it ? if there was nothing and simply nothing before big bang but just that little thing which created everything, how come it exploded or expanded in nothingness ? cause nothing means no empty space. nothing means nothing, it wont let anything to move, explode or expand in itself (there's no in or itself actually "there") in fact it (nothingness) can't let big bang to exist even.
what you think ?

Some models of the universe are "finite in size" but "unbounded". That seems like a contradiction, but it is analagous to the surface of a sphere, which has no boundaries but has finite area. The equivalent for the universe would be a four-dimensional hypersphere. It would have a finite volume, but you could never "leave" the volume. You could only observe this from a fifth dimension, which doesn't exist. So, what is "outside" the universe? Nothing. Not space, not vacuum, but nothing.
However, the latest thinking is that the universe is unbounded and infinite.

The universe is supposed to be inifinitely big... and is still growing. The rate of expansion is not slowing down but speeding up. This is proven by the red-shifted light received from distant stars. The hall way example wasnt a very good one, think about if you were to look right or left in hallway there would be a wall. The universe is not like that. Like somone said you would have to look from 5th dimension to be able to view and understand how the universe is shaped. The universe is expanding so fast that it would be impossible to ever reach an end or a "boundary", since it would take an infinite amount of energy to to accelerate any mass to the speed of light, according to special relativity. No one knows why the rate of expansion of the universe is still accelearting. It was originally thought that gravity of all the mass in the universe would cause the universe's expansion rate to slow down and begin to contract. This is not the case since it is accelerating. This means that there has to be some other repulsive force out there much stronger then gravity. This force is known as "Dark Energy" little is known about this or has been proven that it does exist.
When you say nothing... everything on this earth and in the universe is basically composed of nothingness when it is broken down... When you break down the structure of the atom it, it is composed of mostly nothingness. Atoms are made off small elementary particles with virtually no mass. Then when you go farther into the breakdown of the elementary particles (electrons, protons, neutrons) they are composed of quarks, leptons, and mostly space... This is how it is possible to theoretically say all the matter in the universe could fit into zero amount of space.
So you have to begin to ask yourself... what are we made out of? Energy?? Forces? Does matter even exist? Or is everything pure energy in different forms?
I dont think humans will ever be able to comprehend any of this. We will try and try, but our whole lives are based around 3 dimensions and visualizations. When you go past 3 dimensions the world can not be visualized by humans.

I answered a question like this earlier, it was "What is the origin of MATTER?"
I'm not going to use "god" at all, so relax.
O.k, I feel that the universe could be limitless, or as far as we know, it's a contained area, with no end because it's a infinite loop, like the game asteroids kinda.
Think about it like this,
If there was a room or a hallway that went all the way around the earth, you would never get to the other side of that room, but you would be were you started eventually.
One other possibility is that, upon reaching a certain point in space, a void or null area may exist, were once you pass through this, much like a worm hole, you are divided into atoms and so on. Thus making a sort of end to the universe.
I really hope I helped. It's all my opinion though.

Remember that nothing can move faster than the speed of light. So say that there is a definite time (t seconds ago) at which the universe began (big bang or whatever). Then nothing in the universe can be further than ct light seconds away from the location of the big bang (where c is the speed of light and a lightscond is the distance that light travels in one second). Note that this does not stop the universe from growing, but at any time, there is a distance beyond which nothing exists.

The universe is infinite and can be easily proved with harmonic theory which states that if you apply sufficient force to a tone it will vibrate the harmonics of that tone to infinity. It will skip every second tone in this manner so if 1 is the fundamental tone, then the next tone will be 3, 5, 7, 9 etc.
The i ching and the formula PHI (not pi) are good mathematical formulas that follow the way the universe works.

The Universe is big. Really big. You just wouldn't believe how vastly, hugely, mind bogglingly big it is.
Well, anyways, you ought to read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for some intriguing and rather humourous answers.

I think the infiniteness of the universe along with the irreducibility of matter are two great reasons to believe in God.
