Dear Mr. Jones,

I would like to resign my position with this company efective Friday, may xx, 2007.

Thank you for the opportunities that have been offered to me,

Very truly yours,

Joe Smith.

Short, sweet and to the point.

Give 2 weeks notice. Ask your boss when he has five minutes to talk to you,.When he does, tell him you will be leaving and give him your letter.

Let him ask why. BE POSITIVE,, more opportunities elsewhere, etc etc, more money,no words you would have to eat., Be honest, but not too honest..
You can ;leave with class or leave like an XXXX. Leave in such a way that they'd want you back. You never know.........
Good luck.

Well it depends on different things.

The best way is to make an appointment with your boss, tell them that you are resigning. Talk about why you are leaving.

Don't be negative, and as your boss probably has to pass the resignation letter on to the next level, make the letter positive about your boss.

Remember, if you next job is a pile of crap, you will need your current boss as a referee.

Take your boss to one side, tell him that you are moving on and that you want to give in your notice but insist that you will work your notice so that they have a smooth transition for the new person starting. Tell them that you have enjoyed working for the company but feel now is the time to move on to pursue other goals, keep it light and positive because they will be providing references. It's also good to keep things positive as you have to work your notice period and don't want to do that under a cloud.

Knock on his door and ask him if he's got 5 minutes. Walk-in and present your letter to him. Walk out gracefully.
