I am trying to get a refund for a computer I ordered online but never received due to the company screwing up with UPS. They say I'm not entitled to a refund, but UPS and advice from the kind folks on here say different. What sort of lawyer should I look for?

I assume that you have made your complaint known to the vendor and UPS by mail, hopefully sent by certified mail, and that you have copies of the letters and return receipts indicating that the letters were received.

The next step would be to file a consumer protection complaint with your state's bureau of consumer protection. In most states, the bureau of consumer protection is under the state attorney general's office.

I have included some links for various states, not knowing where you live, yours may or may not be listed here. You can do an internet search on "attorney general consumer protection complaint" to find your particular state's attorney general.

If your credit card was charged for merchandise that was not delivered, you should dispute the charge with the credit card company.

I think you should exhaust all remedies you can on your own before you hire an attorney. However, you may not find it cost-effective. Generally speaking, the consumer protection bureau or attorney general's office complaints get swift action. However, if you feel that you are unhappy with that, hire an attorney -- it will end up being a small claims court case.

Litigator... someone who spends their time suing companies... if this is a trend, you want a tort lawyer...
