Snake eyes I think it must be a compliment, I would take it to mean your legs are so lovely you shouldn't walk on them but display them for all to see.
I can't think of anything that I've had said to me. I always opt for the negative when people say anything referring to my looks.

In the rudest way it was a compliment. He liked your legs and if you walked on your hands your skirt would fall and expose more of your legs. Not to mention the sexual possibilities. In the crudest way it was a compliment. Forget him and find a guy that that has a vocabulary that he can use to pay you a real compliment like you deserve.
I use double meanings all the time but they are way more subtle and either way you take it as a compliment.

Ok, so this is ME. I would have been 'put out' ~ and asked the person right away 'what did you mean' ... I don't like being left in mystery! Because you could have taken it in an insulting way or as a compliment it was not a good thing to have said without clarification.

You have to interpret according to what you think about your legs. I'm sure you already know you have beautiful and attractive legs, because if you felt indifferent about your legs. You would already know how to interpret the compliment giving to you.
For example: If a person says to me that my feet is big, well I would already know how I felt about the size of my feet. Therefore, I have big feet. If you so desire to get someone opinion then ask a person who you trust and get their view of your pretty legs.
God Bless

It was a compliment. The other day I bumped into someone I hadn't seen for a year, ans she said "you look well", and I wondered if she meant I looked good, or that I looked fat. (she's massively fat)

Hmmmmmmm. That is weird. Maybe you should have told them that your hands are used to smack people who make stupid comments.
Orrrrrrrrrrr, Yes it could have been a compliment.. If you have nice legs, then maybe they wanted you to prevent injury to them.
I dunno. I just brought you back to your original question. Sorry
