Vedic Mathematics principles are not at all related to numbers less than zero.
None of the Vedic sutras(asphorisms) are linked to numbers less than zero, which prove that numbers less than zero is a later evolved concept!
Cartesian model of 'zero origin linked co-ordinate application' will not work without 'numbers less than zero' and minus (-) is used there as 'a sign' of negative numbers (numbers less than zero)
If you could logically explain cause of selection of (-) in Vedic Mathematics, you could co-relate said meaning to 'a-sign' of negative numbers! However you may decide to use my clue or not to use it.!
According to me concept of 'subtraction sign' used by ancient Indians have been carried to represent numbers less than zero with a deferrent awareness of said 'subtraction sign'!
