Hmmm... if you are asking me why I chose to go BACK to College (even though I already have UGrad and Grad Degrees that helped me move upwards in my careers and yes, retire with pensions) ... then ...

The answer is that I took Website Design and Digital Imaging/Photography .. because ...

Being of the Arts, they are so FAR removed from how I EARNED a living all those years (I've concentrated in the Math/Sciences) ... they are something that I never would have done before (because I HAD to be the responsible one with the Income -- especially as a Long Term Single Parent), and they were NOT even thought of when I originally earned my degrees, and I was CURIOUS -- could I do them? Could I do well in the courses? Could I enjoy a NEW set of interests or hobby?

You know what -- the courses were fun .. and yes, it was HARD for me to THINK in a more creative way, but I worked at it, and now I really ENJOY the new creativity that shows up in My Camera Work (wow -- love this new Digital SLR Formats!), and I had FUN too.

So although the OLDEST Student (by far), it was interesting to me and I definitely enjoyed what I did .. and it was definitely something I was doing for MYSELF (the only person who had to put everything on the side to raise her children and FINALLY ... I was able to do something that I could ENJOY!).

I do the job I do for a few reasons. It's close to home, I can fit in my hours with my 6 year-old son. I can still pick him up from school every day, and take him most days. My boss is very flexible, and will basically work around me to keep me there. There are only 3 of us working together and we get along fine

I've worked as an Educational Assistant in a school for 8 years. For the past two, I've been teaching... working as student teacher with darn near 100% autonomy in my classroom. I got to university during the Spring and Summer... and I am so close to graduating I can almost taste it. I do the job I do because I love it. It makes me feel like I can positively influence the world. For many years, I worked in similar fields... Working with Child & Family Services, for one. There is a big difference in perspectives between CFS and teaching... here, I feel like I can help prevent problems and pain BEFORE it starts... and with CFS I was even more constrained by the limits of the system than I am in the field of Education.
I love what I do. It can be heart breaking, it can be frustrating... but everyday I get to help young people rediscover the wheel... and why the sky is blue... and that algebra is actually practical and easy... and that most of the limits we have we impose ourselves... and when they figure how to reach for their own personal horizon... the feeling is AWE INSPIRING!!!

Because after I graduated from law school I thought it would be more fun to build custom motorcycles.

I do the job I do now, because I was an idiot and didn't go to college.
