I love to draw, paint, and create. I don't like the "cutesy grandma" crafts like needlepoint and crochet. I like to be unique and allow myself to take whatever it is that I'm doing and turn it into my own thing. I've done a lot of mosaics and jewelry, and now I'm bored with it. Any help?

Polymer clay. You're really only limited by your imagination with this stuff!!!!!! Knitting is also the new "hot" thing. Check out Knitty Gritty on DIY network. Pretty cool stuff . Teaching yourself isn't as hard as you might think.

I'd like suggest taking another look at crochet ... "cutesy grandma" is just one chapter of this amazing art form!

There are people who crochet stunning works with wire -- from sculptures to jewelry! And equally, there are people who create amazing works with thread and/or yarn to make sculptures and more!

As far as all the fiber arts go, consider this: crochet is the only remaining fiber art that must be ENTIRELY MADE by HAND! ( This means that they've yet to create a machine that can reproduce it! ) Why? Because in any place in your work you can: change hooks, fiber, stitch, direction or dimension! Talk about liberating!

Visit my website and you'll find over 100 types & techniques of crochet listed -- and they're not all "grandma's" either! (I'd like to recommend you check out the "freeform" technique; this technique is one of the most "liberating" of them all!)

... but then again, if interior designer Marcel Wanders can create a beautiful crocheted chair using "grandmas" crochet technique and sell it for $40,000 (sold it Beyonce & Jay Z), then perhaps learning Grandma's technique is a good idea too. :)

I hope this helps,

Have you tried altered items and scrapbooking. I am an art teacher and have similar interests and i have found scrapbooking to be an awesome and rewarding outlet. There are so many thing you can do not just on paper with photos too. I have done several really neat altered clipboards, Christmas ornaments, paint can, picture frames, etc.
Maybe this will help!

How about woodburning or maybe work on a long term project like a dollhouse? Or how about making cool digital art with Corel Painter X (Free 10-day trial download at their website).

Check out http://www.etsy.com for some cool ideas too.

How about sculpting with clay or carving wood or blowing glass? Ya know, you might be able to make some bucks by painting murals or something on/ in peoples houses.
