No big deal. A lot of newborn babies don't cry much. Give him one to four weeks, then it'll come like a torrent.

It's fine--don't you dare pinch that baby. It sounds like your cousin is just an easy-going baby, and your aunt is very lucky. Or maybe she did a lot of research before the baby was born and learned how to soothe him quickly. Or maybe he does cry sometimes when you aren't around--my daughter hardly ever fusses when we're in public, but at home it's a whole different story.

If you're really worried, ask your aunt about it. If it concerns her, she'll discuss it with her pediatrician.

But do NOT pinch the baby or do anything to make it cry. It's hard to be a new mother and the last thing your aunt needs is someone purposely making the baby cry.

The person who suggested that the child could be in an abusive environment is being ridiculous. Granted, it's true for when a child is older, but an infant would not learn to be quiet in that way. On the contrary if it was being uncared for in any way it would be screaming. So don't even consider that as a possibility. It sounds like your aunts just doing a top job and has a content little baby.

It's perfectly normal for a child to not cry. Your cousin may just be content when you see him, as this would conclude why he's not crying. See, babies won't cry when they're happy. Only when somethings wrong. Chock it up to your aunt being a really great parent! And if it still bothers you, pinch your cousin for a reaction to pain, see if he cries. If he doesn't, then take the non-crying very seriously and take him to a specialist. It may be a sign of something much more important.

My daughter almost never cried, and I mean never! If your aunt is very attentive, and the baby is very well taken care of when it fusses, then it has no need to cry. I could tell what my baby needed just by her cries, and she never had to get to a full-bore cry before she was taken care of and comfy.

Please be selective in the advice you recieve. Please do not shake the baby(shaken baby syndrome)it can cause death.Do not pinch the baby. That is abuse.Your cousin seems to be a calm child and I wouldn't be concerned. If anything was wrong they would have found out in the nursery when he was born, they check the hearing at that time. Also the Pediatricain will check his hearing on his check-ups.I had a little girl like your cousin and she was always quite-calm baby. There is nothing wrong with her hearing/voice today believe me.LOL

I wouldn't worry about the crying so much as how active the baby is. Is he awake and alert at least some of the day? When he is awake is he looking around and kicking and moving? If he is very listless I would be worried. If hes very inactive and very sleepy I would definitely take him to the doctor asap.
