Check out my bio. That's EXACTLY what should be our nations NUMBER ONE concern. Energy independence!
Wars over energy concerns (i.e. the Gulf Wars) will be continually replayed, over and over again (with my support, nothing matters more to our economy than the price of oil, currently) until we become energy self-sufficient.
Unless we get serious, we'll keep having this battle again and again.

Did you know that PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH has spent more money than any other president in history on research for alternative sources of fuel???? Why is it that so many people in their teens and 20's claim to care so much about the fuel problem, so much about the environment, yet are the people most likely to speed past me going atleast 20 mph over the speed limit? And why is it that the people I see who are in their early 30's tend to drive huge gas guzzling vehicles? I don't understand. Please someone, splain.

The average American would just be giving their energy dollars to a different corporation. Exxon (oil) v. Archer Daniels Midland (corn/ethanol). And paying about $12 dollars for a bag of Fritos or $50 for a corn fed steak... because you're burning corn in your car rather than your stomach.

A candidate who could present the best alternative for fuel that will not cause pollution has an advantage to win the Presidency because people are already talking about survival of mankind.
VOTE for your choice as US President on my 360 degrees blog and know who will likely win.

The technology isn't there yet
Ethanol is a sham:
Supporters of corn-based ethanol promote it as one way to cure America's fossil-fuel addiction. That's an exaggeration as high as an elephant's eye. The libertarian Cato Institute says it takes the equivalent of seven barrels of oil to produce eight barrels of corn-derived ethanol. Argonne National Laboratory, which studies ethanol for the Department of Energy, is more generous: for each unit of energy to grow, process, and transport corn ethanol, it yields 1.35 units of energy

How about a vehicle that runs on cow farts and landfill leachate??
We're decades away from viable alternative fuels on a national scale. Let the free market dictate this one....as gas prices rise, alternatives become more and more attractive. Big Brother need not apply.
I'd much rather see both sides come together on social security reform....namely letting us opt out.

No, because America needs to deal with the unfair trade practices and economic ties with countries like India, China, Japan, etc. - that close their borders to our goods, don't play by the same environmental or social standards we are held to, and that rob Americans of their standard of living! All other issues are moot.

I am not sure we will see that in our life time because of the power of the money in the oil industry. The technology for alternative fuels is not a new thing. The reason we haven't seen it is because how embedded the oil folks are with our government...
just my opinion...
peace!

i think that it could play a big factor in the race for 2008 elections! why? well almost everyone puts gas i thier car, some people pay 3.50 per gallon, well imagine i the demo's or Repubs were able to pass a bill that regulate gas prices to a average price of 1.50. well every time the average american went to pump gas they would remember the name or party that did this for them. just my theory tho.
