I have 3 years experience in general office, office assistant, medical records, file clerk, but I am having issues with social phobia. I have been called for several positions, but it requires heavy phones, and customer service, or front desk, so I turn them down. I would like to find a job where I wont really deal to much with customers, or phones because I stutter and get too nervous. I dont however want to get any work at home jobs. What positions should I apply for?? and should I be straight out with an employment agency about my problem with dealing with people?? Help!

Your situation is not that you have a "problem with dealing with people" so don't put it that way. It is okay to tell an employer that you sometimes stutter. Begin working on your speech and you will become a whole new person. Get The Stuttering Foundation's book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" and work diligently through each step. Go to www.stutteringhelp.org and click on "brochures for all ages" then find the one about talking on the telephone. Conquer your stuttering and find a wonderful world where you can enjoy whatever job you want.

It sounds like you need to be straight out with your employment company that your suffering from a social phobia or they wont be able to know why your having problems with work. But be warned they might not understand it as well as you do, so you might need to tell them the exact problems you face so you can look to find a more suitable job for yourself if possible. I have been told it gets easier to manage as you get older, if thats any comfort.

The only job i can think of that might be helpful to you is some kind of research job where you dont have to see people much, but it may not really interest you. Hope you find what your looking for.
