I've never been able to hear what he yells and it isn't in the book either! I've wondered about this for years...does anyone know?

The name he yells out is Moonchild. I had to read the book to eventually figure out what he was shouting. Though I'm not sure that Moonchild was his mother's name in the book, but I haven't read it in a while. I think they might have added that little bit for the movie so that his choice of names wasn't completely random.

It was Moonchild because Bastien was supposed to be half Native American Indian on his mother's side.
Even his bag had a picture of an Indian Brave riding a horse with a bow and arrow hunting buffalos, which in turn was Bastien's role model in Etrayu (of the Plains People, who rode a horse, and hunted the purple buffalo).

It's Moonchild. Atreyu yells it when he meets the childlike princess at the end. I was always haunted by her weird whispering voice.

mongslahslayah-hoess. that's what it sounds like to me, anyway. watch it again and tell me i'm not being serious. i bought the dvd for the subtitles and it's like "shouts name" or some crap like that. we was robbed. would'a been funny if it was like saphire or something, though.

i have no idea either. but i do know that i love the kid who plays atreyu(forgot how to spell it).
