I'm not so much in favor of them. At the very least, they are a waste of money and at the very most detrimental to natural brain development. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children 2 years and under watch no TV. None. I have read about a suspected link between TV and ADD/ADHD. Personally, I believe it. I hate the idea of putting a baby in front of a TV. If you want your kid to learn things, great. Videos aren't necessary. Very few parents are not capable of teaching the basics of language. The more actual human interaction a baby gets, the better.
Just to redeem myself from what I've already ranted: I know it's not practical that any household will have the TV set off for 2 straight years. I also think that there is a terrible way to use the videos and a not so bad way. If the parent(s) watch with the baby and interact with him or her while watching it together it's probably not as bad. For some reason, when I think of these videos, I imagine poor little neglected babies strapped into their car seat pointed at the TV all day. That's just me I guess. Hopefully, that doesn't happen all that much. I'm sure most use them more responsibly.

i like the educational videos and sprout and disney and that is all my child gets to watch since she was 1 years old. or actually mostly listen to because she is hyper active. Let the baby hang out and you can also play with the baby and keep the baby active and entertained too. i try to do more than half hanging out and the other watching educational programs so that they can reinterate what i have been going over with her. baby einstein is a good learning tool. just keep the other toys limited especially if they are not educational. this is how i am but remember if you want to be different then do it your way...its your child and raise them like you want them to be raised not exactly how others raise their kids.

The Baby Einstein videos/dvds are excellent.
My twins loved them.
My daughter started to turn her head towards the TV at only 7wks in order to see a large red flower that spins to music while floating on the water.
My son laughed and laughed at a dancing crayon.
As they got older, they watched Baby Neptune and the animal ones alot. They're just great and were so stimulating for them.
And for the parents, they were something that you could listen to more than once, and that's a plus because they listened to it many, many times.
AND they didn't just nap and eat.

Those movies are great for babies. They are made to help develop the babies mind faster in an easier more fun way so that they like learning and have fun with it. All the babies i know love those movies and "The Little Einsteins" on playhouse Disney they are great for kids.

docs recommend NO television till finally a minimum of two yrs previous. television earlier then basically teaches little ones to concentration quickly forward and track out the 'stuff' occurring around them. (as a instructor, i'm able to %. little ones who watch television from an early age. even the 'clever' little ones have problems in school). television at an early age will influence a baby's interest. right this is a hyperlink under on the destructive alongside with the beneficial impacts of television viewing. (from the academy of pediatrics)

My daughter really loved the baby type videos around 9 months. I think that it was mostly the music that she enjoyed, plus the bright colors, etc.
I don't think that a child needs videos, nor should parents depend on them. But, if you sit and watch them with your child, and participate in the experience - such as singing along with the songs, etc. It can be an added bit of fun and learning.

They are good videos but with that said my 6 month old watches nothing on TV. I feel like there is no need, he has so many things in his enviroment that are amazing him right now that I feel like more stimulation would be to much. Kids don't need TV especially that young...to many parents are using TV for a babysitter.

Educational videos are okay......Well, not really. I understand that they are meant to be educational videos but matter of factly are not. These videos are just mimicking what is supposed to happen in real life interactions with your baby, however they lack the reactions that your baby needs to be stimulated. The video wil not "talk" to your child or react to her laughing. "You" will talk to your child and react to her laughing. Babies learn in diffrent ways, cognitive (brain), sensory (touch), audiory (sound), sight and lots of social interaction.
The best teaching you can give your child is to interact with them, not place them in front of a TV for them to react with it.
I hope this helps!
