As a responsible, law abiding citizen why do you feel that I should not be allowed to own a gun? Before you go off the deep end, I do believe in some gun control.

Gun Control: The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

Good question.

Of all the people you have seen, how many of them do you honestly want to have possession of a gun?

Killings by guns are very rare in countries that have gun control. I think in Japan there were no children killed with firearms in an entire year. However, a 2002 statistic shows eight children a day die from gun fire here in the U.S. No telling what it is now.

Can owning a gun really protect you from someone who also has a gun?
If they are breaking into your home, you will probably never have a chance to use your gun. If you can get to it quickly and it's ready to fire, then your child would have already tested it out. Furthermore, that is where perpetrators get the untraceable guns they use to kill with. They are stolen from people's homes.

You would need to wear your gun on your hip when your out because that is probably where the gunman is most likely going to go after you. Stay alert. Dodge City.

Perhaps it might be better if neither one of you had a gun, since the perpetrator is the expert and has the element of surprise on his side.

Lastly, when is the last time you had a gun held on you? It is the most dreadful, sickening feeling to know the idiot holding the gun can cause you to be dead at any moment. You allow him a gun and he has all the power. He decides if you live or die.

I think originally citizens were given the right to own guns because we needed a standing militia. Now we would have to own rockets to be of any consequence.

But, on the other hand, if we had some evil dictator that wanted to oppress us, it might be a little more difficult if there were a lot of guns floating among the citizenry.

Tough call.

They'd rather blame the gun instead of admitting bad people exist.. Or maybe it's because deep down these anti gun nuts are too cowardly to defend themselves or too irresponsible to own one and think everyone else is like them.
Guns aren't the problem in America it's our culture ..
We've become a violent isolationist society where the word forgiveness isn't even in our vocabulary.

I'm basically on the same page as you; I believe that the "right to bear arms" should be limited to people who are mentally stable, mature, responsible, etc. Guns don't belong in the hands of nutjobs like Seung-Hui Cho, but people who can handle having gun and only using it when it's absoljutely necessary to defend of themselves or others should absolutely be able to carry a gun.

Why place limits on what types of guns they can own? Why not let people buy automatics or hell, even rocket launchers. They are as you mentioned responsible, law abiding citizens.

The only gun control that is acceptable is a sharp eye and a steady hand.

You can own/pack as big a weapon as you can fit through the front door, Rambo. Knock yourself out.

"Some" gun control? And what, in your opinion, would be sufficient and prudent?

We have "controls" over many facets of our lives, and we ACCEPT them in the interest of our mutual safety.

There are motor vehicle regulations, traffic regulations, food and drug regulations; all quite stringent and enforced.

Guns - as tools of death - should be subject to no less stringent regulation.

as a responsible, law-abiding citizen why would u or anyone be against me owning a grenade-launcher/street-sweeper, an ak-47, tommy guns, and an rpg launcher? if i had those things, it wouldn't mean that i would use them, right? so, where should the line be drawn as to who should own what? capice?

If you give somebody power then they may be tempted to misuse it at some stage in their life. It doesn't matter how law abiding they are at the moment
