Trying to troubleshoot why my temp guage will not work on 1996 ford taurus. Stays all the way on cold (bottom).

It is right next to your thermostat. Look at your radiator and follow the big hose coming off of it on top going to your engine, normally your thermostat is connected right where that hose connects to your engine. and your temp sensor should have a wire soming right off that area as well just change it out

Try on the radiator near the cooling fans about half way up or try on the top front of the engine where the coolant line at the top of the radiator connects to the engine. This is the two common places coolant sensors are located. Hope this was of some help.

Providing this is 3.0 liter engine..do you see the top radiator hose going to the thermostat housing...there will be a temp sending unit screwed into that housing....check to make sure it is hooked up...with vehicle running if you disconnect it and reconnect it and nothing happens then it's bad and replace it..but you also have a coolant temp sensor, that controls the cycle of the cooling fans..If they are working OK, the just replace the coolant sensor to the guage...
