It depends on how much you can tolerate the heat. If you're from up North or out West, you will not likely like the hot humid weather of Florida during most of the time. I, personally, would avoid anytime from April-Oct, but thats me and I hate hot humid weather.
The best time would be from Dec-Feb (avg weather is 60-70F with lows of 30-40s and highs of upper 70s/)
Also, during the winter season, theres all the Christmas lights and celebrations. It really is a sight to see. I think the kids would enjoy all the bright lights and decorations during this time. Also, because the weather is nice, the lines would not be so unbearable. Though the busiest time at Disney is during the week before New Years, I think its still the best time to be there.
Enjoy your trip =)

I'm from the UK which isn't exactly the warmest so I LOVE the heat of mid-summer Florida. Cool yourself off on the water based rides, get drenched , it doesn't matter cos you'll be dry again before you know it. I also think there's something almost eerie about a half empty theme park so I even like some crowds! Also, part of the magic of disney is the immersiveness of the scenery while you're in the line to go on the ride. It helps build anticipation so it's not a bad idea to actually spend some time in it. So I may be alone here but I think summer's a great time to go. As long as you go in with the right attitude and soak it all up.

Well typically families plan for the summer because that is when their kids are out of school. However, the summer is peak time and hotels are more expensive, its hotter than anything, and really crowded. So if you can manage to pool your kids out of school for a few daysm I recommend late September or anytime in the month of October. It is still warm enough to visit the beach and wear shorts, etc... but not unbearable. And the crowds are non-existant and hotel costs are way down. Early Decebmer (before Dec. 18th) is also a wonderful time to visit to avoid high crowds and keep costs low, but the temps are lower and it can often be too cold for the beach.

I have an 11 year old and 6 year old as well, and we took our last trip over Easter break. March and April are my favorite times to go to Disney. I know there are people there for spring break and Easter is one of the busier times to go, but it honestly was not bad. The crowd that is there over spring break and Easter is different. Everyone knew it was going to be busy and no one was really rude or obnoxious. We used the fastpass quite a bit, and made sure to leave ourselves plenty of time to see whatever shows we wanted. I think weather wise that March, April, and the beginning of May are the best. Not too hot and not much rain. Over Christmas it is cool an even MORE crowded than Easter. Summer time is unbearably hot, it rains ALOT, and the crowd is more obnoxious. I was there over 4th of July not that long ago and vowed never to return then again. Not only did it rain every day and the temps were VERY hot, but the crowd was much different. (More rude and inconsiderate. I have a theory about why from a couple of cast members, but that is a different topic. No the pepole were not from the U.S. or U.K.)
I have been told by a couple of people that Thanksgivig is a good time to go. Weather is pretty good and the crowds are light. However, keep in mind when you go that if you go off peak season it is very possible that some rides and attractions are closed for refurbishment and the parks close early. I like going during the more peak times so that I don't have to worry about things being closed.
I hope this helps somewhat. I know you guys will have a blast, we did and always do. Have a great trip. Below are a couple of links you will like. The first is the WDW website. You can check out all of the resorts and attactions. When you go, make sure to stay at a Disney resort. Pricewise they are comparable to anything around, and the perks for resort guests are well worth it. Also, I recommend a park hopper option for your passes. It gives you the ultimate in freedom instead of only being allowed to go to one park on one day. On the site you can get a quote for the resort of your choice, the passes, the airfare, etc. It makes things very easy. If you have any questions you can also call a cast member who will help you in any way they can. We have gone 7 times in the last 14 years and I have always been able to save a few bucks by making the reservations myself.
The second website is the disboards. The disboards are a message board website with the ultimate amount of info about going to WDW. It is free, and you can find anything you want to know about going to Disney from people who love to go and who really know what they are talking about.
Also, let the kids help plan the trip. Pick up the Birnbaum's guide to WDW from the bookstore, as well as the Birnbaum's guide for Kids by Kids. My kids get a kick out of making their lists of things that are must see's for them. I know there are tons of guide books out there, but those work the best for us.
Have a great trip! Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions, I love to help!!

For us, the best time to go to Disney is the second week of September (week after Labor Day). If you are planning on staying on the property, then the rates for the resorts are a lot cheaper because it is their value season. Also, the kids are back in school so there are less crowds. When we last went in Sept., the longest we waited for an attraction was 15 mins and that was to see Ariel in her Grotto, everything else was at least 5 mins. The temp is humid, but very manageable, you are not going to get those 90+ temps. If you are not one to make ressies for one of their popular restaurants, then you can just wait until you get down there and do it at the hotel you are staying at or at guest relations at one of the parks. My family loves going this time of year....Hope this helps.

Wow it looks like everyone has a different favorite time to go. We went 5 days before Christmas and it was wonderful. Great weather, no crowds short lines and all the decorations. How many people pull their kids out of school before break? Not that many. We plan to do it again this year as well.

of disney runs the free dining program next...year then around september where all of you can eat at disney parks and resorts for free as long as you stay on disney property for 3 nights or more. THat is what my husband and I are doing this September. With kids that will save you a lot of money. An average savings for the 2 of us was $550 for a 7 night 8 day stay.

The best time to avoid crowds and hot rainy weather would be from Jan. to April and then October to November. The weather is especially nice in the early spring, like March. Pretty much 70-80 degrees and low chances of rain.

Weekdays are surely smaller crowds. August in Florida is quite, very heat and humid, so assume frizzy hair and thunder storms. The parks would be quite barren, yet there'll in all probability be particularly some Europeans (they have an inclination to come returned to Disney international interior the summertime).

Go during Thanksgiving Break. The Christmas decorations are up, and the crowds are low until the day before Thanksgiving. Also, the weather is cooler. The only thing you can't do because it is too cold would be Kali River Rapids, but I have seen people doing that anyway. They lower the water levels in Splash Mountain, so you don't get as wet.
