I believe your confusion follows the findings of older fossils found in strata above and in (geologically) younger strata.
Evidently, the presumed extinct fossils did not die out as previously predicted.
Or, through changes in the soft soils the older fossils migrated further toward the surface and became embedded in younger strata.
My personal belief is that the Carbon dating of soils and fossils is BUNK!
But that would make me an apostate of your RELIGEON by challenging the FAITH you place in SCIENCE because I refute the BELIEF in your DOCTRINE.

Aren't these qualities of religeon (faith, belief, doctrine)?
