I mean, call me old fashioned, but I just don't see how these walking stick figures are even realistic, let alone attractive. Sure there faces are beautiful, but they are thinned to the point where they can't develope correctly.

Did you know that Marylin Monroe, who was one of the most beautiful women ever, was a size 16?

I actually lowered myself and bought the new issue of Vogue today. It's all about the "new models" of today. They're all obviously a size 00 (something totally acceptable in L.A. and NYC) and I always beat myself up because I feel like I could never be as thin as these girls. (they're all about 14-17 now) You're right, their faces are beautiful, but I bet that they're so abnormally thin that 1. Their bodies cannot develop normally. 2. If you're anorexic, you stop having a period. 3. What kind of example is this for REAL women of today? It's bad enough that real women are practically invisible because they haven't made "the cut". I'd really like to know how many men find these girls attractive!

Some are.
Some aren't.

However i do see this from the fashion designers point of view.

Skinny models all have more or less the same bodies. Which makes fashion shows work. If you have been ever been behind the scenes - it's manic.

The clothes are just given to them and they go out and walk it... if there is a problem it's easily sorted by giving that item of clothing to another model. All the clothing is in one size... doesn't have to be altered to fit a certain person.

Once a model starts to put on weight - she will be curvy. And as different people are curvy in different places - it would cause a problem. They couldn't just have ' sample ' sizes.. they would have to make 4/5/6 tops the same but in different sizes to fit the different body shapes... they would have to alter them constantly... and as i said it's totally manic behind the scenes. There is no time for all of this....

It's a lot easier to just have a 'one size fits all'

Okay that probably didn't make total sense but i hope you get what i mean....

Also there is one other thing i want to say but i'll probably get flamed for it so i won't

No, it's not jus you. I totally agree with you!! Some of these girls aren't even 14 yet!! Its totally heinous how they are pressured into being so completely emaciated looking and gaunt!! On the bright side, that show on Disney channel, "That's so Raven", had a really funny show on this morning. Raven's clothing design had won first prize and they wanted her to model it for them but they wanted her to be a lot slimmer to do it!! Needless to say, mayhem and pandemonium ensued with Raven falling all over the place in the Gym etc. and doing ridiculous things!! I didn't see the end of it but the gist of it was that at long last there is a show out there that probably most of our children watch that is rebelling against this ridiculously waif like gaunt image !! Yaaay!! ............. I think I answered the question you asked properly!! lol ................. :0)

If you look at these reality shows that show women trying to win modeling contracts... they are too skinny yes but most aren't really that hot looking even in the face. It's all about the makeup artists ability to paint on glamor.

They are waaaay too skinny! Everytime I see one of these models I am like 'she needs some fried chicken and biscuits!' Being that skinny is very unattractive. I even find their faces unattractive because they have sunken in faces. I guess I find nothing physically attractive about them at all.

When in the history of fashion has too thin been out, imagine what they will look like 10 years from now.

I agree 100%. These are horrible role models for girls these day. There was a girl here on the other day who had just moved to California, wanting to loose weight, she was 13 and weighed 107 lbs. Get real!!

i must agree with you. i find models with the scarlett johansson look so much more attractive then those sticks. . . i would understand if being thin was beautiful theni would become anorexic but it just isnt attractive at all. instead of men falling at their feet, u got therapists and doctors beggin for em....
i dun think thin is bad...i am...but stickly, scary, weirdly, thin that ppl look for in models...its an epidemic

They`ve been like that for like a decade or more, like people haven`t noticed that before?
I personally think it`s disgusting and NOT realistic (unless you live in LA perhaps). The average american woman is a size 14!
