the collar (the part that goes over the mouth) of my snowboard jacket smells really bad from being wet all the time, and possibily from my spit.

i tried febreeze, that just made it smell like febreeze + the wet smell.
I dont want to use detergent on the whole jacket cuz i remember you are not suppose to because it would cut ruin the waterproofing.
So i used detergent on just the collar then rinsed it, but the weird smell still lingers.

is there any natural stuff i can use? like lemon mixed with water or something..........

also, if anyone know how to get rid of the smell of wet snowboard boot liners, please let me know.

thanks!

thanks for the answers............I know about Nikwax and washing and all that, but my question is just about the COLLAR part.
I have tried washing the whole jacket but the collar still kinda smells.

to Nephroid:

Unless they're stained, I typically wash my jacket once at the end of every season before putting it away. I just follow the instructions on the tag which say to use powdered laundry detergent.

I ussually just hang it to dry and then waterproof it with a spray at the beginning of next season. I've never used the wash-in waterproofing so I can't say if it works well or not.

In general I don't really seem to need that waterproofing all that much though. Maybe in the spring when it gets really slushy. In fact this season, I may have forgotten to waterproof my jacket at all, and I didn't really notice.

In the future you might want to consider getting a face mask, baklava (sp?), or bandana to put over your mouth. That way you can keep the goobers off your collar and just throw it in the wash at the end of every day.

Follow these steps and the smell will surely go. 1. Hang the coat in the bathroom overnight, open the window so air can flow in (i think it should be cold wherever you are. Close the bathroom door so the air only circulates in the bathroom. 2. Get a bottle of Febreez and spray it all over the coat. Leave for 30 minutes. Come back and spray inside and outside the coat. Leave till the next day 3. Since you left the coat overnight you should notice the reduction of smell. Spray Febreeze on the coat one more time. Leave for 15 minutes. You need to have Brut Body spray (the real thing which comes in a green can you can get it from most beauty stores). It is real cheap and costs about 4.99. Spray it all over it. 4. Notice that it smells like a new coat and has a real sexy smell. Even the strongest nose will not be able to perceive any odor of smoke from your coat.

Have you read the washing instructions on the jacket? Most can be washed in a machine. You can also use specialist products, such as Nikwax, to restore waterproofing. Just add to the final rinse.
