Unfortunately, I don't know any better than the other idiots who have tried to answer this question. Sorry.

Hmm the Chinese rockets use Unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH) and Dinitrogen tetroxide to fuel their main boosters, as opposed to the cryogenic and solid fuels used by the space shuttle. That's probably why they have a different-appearing exhaust.

Impurities in the fuel cause a different color to the exhaust... I'd guess there might be some Manganese in their mix... but can't say so with authority :(
