My coworkers probably think I am crazy. I am a programmer, but hate the job I currently have programming in COBOL. I did look for another software developer job in Visual Basic for four years a few years ago, but had no luck. I have over 30 years experience but it didn't help.
I started learning web programming about six months ago and spend many hours every day at home and sometimes at work creating websites. I am trying to create a cash flow so I can retire in a few months. My boss has been nice to me and looks the other way when I am doing my web stuff.
My fellow coworkers are programmers and don't really like programming, but don't say much about it . They talk about everyone else in the company. These are men and I thought women were the ones to gossip. I was wrong.

They say that I'm too strict when it comes to work. My desk is always clean because I never let anything linger I take care of it as soon as it comes. They think I need to loosen up or more or less slack off like them. lol When it comes to working with Patients you can not let things sit considering the Patients health is on the line, but they do not see it that way. They think I should be in party mode all the time.

Probably not too much I would say. I am new to the office this year, after being in my last office for 6 years... these guys are weird - really "caring and considerate" or "sunshine happy people"... It is too much and I can't be stuffed getting in on their "happy vibe" so I just go about my own thing... think they're at a loss as to why I don't want to join their over-happy campaign. Just seems fake

That's part of what I like about my job. I don't have to see co-workers and supervisors on the job. Only at meetings. I work with kids with developmental disabilities, and I go right to the consumers home to work. I don't have to worry about managers looking over my shoulder all the time, and I get to work alone, which I prefer : )

Of the 1000 + people under me, about 75% get on well with me, and I see no reason to not get on with the other 25% if they want to do their job properly.
Of the 10 people equal to me about 50% get on well with me, the others can kiss my ar*e.
Of the 4 people above me, well, who cares, I'm aiming higher than them anyway.
All in all, I'm happy with the ratio.

*BIG SIGH!* I haven't had co-workers in about 7 years, and I miss it! When I did, they thought of me as the "cool" girl - I worked with mostly men - and they thought it was awesome that I was a girly-girl, but smart & fit in & could laugh at their jokes & took things "like a guy." The few women that worked there were my friends, too. They were also cool gals! I miss work!

My co workers? Err, um they are six and nine. And they think I am fantastic, and they adore me... Although now that you mention it, they do seem to take advantage of me from time to time...
Hmm, could it be that they know how far they can push mommy/ boss lady? LOL!
If you still have not figured out what I am talking about, "I am a stay home mommy..."
Now that is true work!
:o)

They think I'm insane because I keep trying to convince them to buy the products my manager is pressuring me to sell. There's some sort of contest and I don't care about the prize, I just want to beat the one co-worker I'm in competition with.

Why they all adore me!
Seriously, they respect me and many come to me for advice. Plus, I'm known as the life of the party after hours and everyone laughs at my jokes.

Modesty aside, they think I'm a great buddy in the trenches and someone to be relied on in a crisis.
